I figured out a way to make a dynamic left side menu for the ubb.x
What I'll do is make my menu in flash, this way ubb.x is calling the flash file which I can always update and when updated all the different forum sections will get updated at the same time. If you would like me to hook one up for your site, please post your menu and the links they go to here and I can make one for ya. I'll do it free of charge as long as I can have my NewsForNow.com logo and link at the bottom of it. -Line ______________________________________ http://www.NewsForNow.com News & Information for the intelligence enthusiast. |

Is that what you've got going right now on your site, with the fading grey highlights? It looks very very nice!

I looked at what you have going, looks great. I haven't used Flash, but I have a menu going; but I had mine done under a frames set-up; it looks like you're using a table or something other than frames? Can you tell me what method you're using, and how it's working for you?

Hey Parrot, the menu is working great, the only problem I guess i'm having is that the background of the menu is white, so if I were to change the background of my forum, you'd still see this wierd white border.
What I'm doing for this menu is just importing a Macromedia FLASH menu. You can see the embed code for it in the source. So All I have to do is update the one nfnbbsidemenu.fla file, export the .swf file, upload it to the web and oila, all pages in the forum are updated. This allows me to always use that one menu and still have the ability to change the header or footer. -Line ______________________________________ http://www.NewsForNow.com News & Information for the intelligence enthusiast. |

I guess I need to clarify a little what it is that I'm asking.
On my site right now, I have the nav bar done under a frames setup. The navbar in it's frame window, the UBB, or whatever other window from the site in it's own frame. This allows me to keep the menu in place as the user moves throughout the site; however it presents a problem in that if someone gives someone else a URL to a specific message, when the visitor clicks on that, they aren't getting into the first page, so they don't get the frame setup, and they don't get the nav bar... I'm looking for a better way of doing this. It looks like what your doing may be that better way. Your flash menu does look very nice, but I'm more interested right now in the implementation. Does this make any sense or am I rambling? http://tormentedvhfans.com |

You can try to be more specific
but, I'll try answering anyway. I make all the buttons and graphics in flash mx, after my menu is done, I upload it to my web space. In the forum tools, I edited my sites style document and where it allows you to place html, i insert a table <td>cell and in that cell I put the code pointing to the flash menu. Since the style is pointing to the flash menu on my web host, all I have to do when I make changes to my menu is edit the flash document, upload it to the web and all the menu's change. -Line |
