OK, EVE is great. I will state that so that a group of folks in Groupee / INFOPOP T-shirts aren't knocking at my door just minutes after I post this comment....
The way I see it, Groupee (your solution to the Microsoft Passport) is a safe way of helping to safeguard personal data because it is maintained on the Groupee / Infopop servers and not on each customers hosting account. This also helps to collect data for each user in one location so that they "don't have to keep entering in the same stuf over and over again each time the register", but truth be told, the only other site that I use that utilizes Groupee is this one, the InfoPop Nation. I highly doubt that my users visit too many other Groupee sites, which could be a killer to my site because I want them to use my site only anyways. Since you already have the personal data of the Groupee users, and of course, since the authentication has to go through your servers / software anyway, it shoudl not really hurt anything by allowing us to have a Groupee Login form on our site. We don't need anything spectacular, simply a "Username, Password, Remember Me Checkbox and links to pages if they are not a groupee member or lost their password". Of course, as nice as it would be to have a login box for my community on other sites that I maintain to help advertise the community, I would not necessarily need it. I tried to make a form, using that which is available on the Groupee Login page, and I received an error stating that I could not login because the form was not maintained on a groupee or infopop server. If we can allow others to add our content islands on their sites through our control panel, why can you allow those sites that pay for the use of EVE to add the login box on their own site only. This would probably make many people very happy and help to make it look like the site is ours, not infopops. If our visitors want to know who owns the community, they simply have to look at the top of their browser and see the infopop name or even look at the graphics at the bottom of each page that they can click and be taken directly to infopop. Please, allow us to add a simple login box on our own site. As companies become more vicious in their blocking of websites through the use of many of the available programs like websense, all they will have to do is block groupee.com and all access to any groupee site that requires a login will be terminated....basically bringing to an end the legacy that I hope to have with my site since the majority of the logins are from a "work computer" because of the educational nature of the site. Thanks for reading. ------------------------------ Error! Signature field empty |

Hi ncocorps,
We are currently working to make the Eve/Groupee login process much more seamless. As a couple of examples, we are going to add styling to the Groupee login pages to make it look like your site and we are also going to add wording and links to make it clearer as to which site the user is logging into. Hopefully these upcoming changes will clear up some of the issues you are concerned about.
This is correct. Personal information is safeguarded and totally secured by the Groupee system. In fact, this is precisely the reason why we don't allow login forms hosted by non-Groupee pages to submit Groupee logins (as you are proposing). If we allowed this, you could very easily come up with some javascript to monitor and steal the emails and passwords of Groupee users using the form on your site. It is because of this security risk that we do not allow Groupee logins to occur except via the groupee.com pages. I don't anticipate this will change anytime soon either, as those security risks are an inherent problem with that design. Hopefully you can understand the reasoning behind this restriction Regards, Brian Lenz Groupee Inc. |
