My first post...

I would like to add a Product Review service to my website, perhaps using the Forum message board.

We would like to have different categories of products used by seniors and then have members post their ratings and/or personal stories.

Has anyone done something like this with the Forum, or is anyone aware of a freeware program that I can use to add to my website?

We had this very suggestion raised recently on my board and I offered to convert our existing shopping forum to something a little more friendly for reviews (basically turning on the rating system in that forum and organizing it a little better to entice ratings).

My experiences, however, is that ratings don't work real well on a lot of web sites--you either need incredible traffic to generate the type of #'s to create some ratings or something very, very niche-oriented. We get decent #'s on our site (100,000 page views, 7500 unique visitors a day) and have had ratings in place in our resource center (advice articles) and online store and neither get many ratings submitted.
