Anyone know how my users can embed YouTube code into the posts so that the actual YouTube videos appear inline within the posted content?

I don't want to show just the URL link, but the actual display of the video with the control buttons.

Here is what the YouTube code looks like for a particular video.

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/84HqTsXxz28"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/84HqTsXxz28" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Hi vhanna2,

The object and embed HTML tags are not allowed in posts for security reasons, so you won't be able to embed the feed directly into a post. Your only options would be:

1) Include the embedded video in header HTML somewhere on your site (either your site's intro html, forum intro html, or style html). The side effect of this would be that the video would be included on potentially more pages than you want it to.

2) Link to a separate page and embed the video in the linked page.

Brian, could I ask a little about the "security reasons"? Is embedding videos in posts something that might be allowed in the future on Eve? Even as an option for the admin.

The use of video is now about the hottest thing going on the net, and it's only going to become more incorporated - and even expected - as time goes on.

Thx

dotspace-

We are considering adding such support. We just need to work through any/all security concerns to prevent malicious code from being run through a posting.

Ted, if Groupee decides to allow a little beta testing of permission-based embed code in Eve forums, please consider http://www.studioforums.com

We've got a fairly civilzed bunch over there. I run the joint, and would be happy to participate. We want to start embedding short videos that cover the use of microphones and other recording gear in our posts.

Hi there,

We had been waiting for a Video and Newsletter version of Groupee/Eve for some time but finally had to move on to integrate other systems.

We have been able to integrate both Groupee Forums and video at http://www.dancescape.TV

Soon, we'll be incorporating within our DanceScape eZine newsletter at http://www.dancescpae.com/ezine

Initially we thought that Groupee/Eve would fulfill all our needs, but the best bet is to look for the best systems based on your requirements and then creatively integrating the best of all products.

We still like Groupee/Eve for the potential of Premium Membership so will continue to stick this out.

If you'd like more information, please feel free to PM or email info@dancescape.com

We're incorporating now a lot of dance and entertainment-based videos on our Dance Forums at http://dancescape.com/mydancefriends primarily utilizing a 3 column type of layout.

An update on this... our next major release for eve, Version 1.3, currently includes plans to support embedded flash objects (such as YouTube videos, as requested).

Hi Ted, any news on embedding videos in Eve?

It's 2007 and the Web 2.0 is moving along. Videos are an important and compelling form of content. If you're doing any beta testing on this at all - please include me!

I can embed YouTube video on a post on my board by wrapping the code in HTML tags, but I can only do this as admin - my members can't do this. I checked and the forum does NOT have HTML disabled - and member permissions allow HTML (Eve > Members > Permission Snapshot > Eve - Personal Permissions - Allow HTML in posts checked for all members).

Have I missed something? Or can only ADMINs put in this type of code? Here is a link to a post with YouTube: Travel Videos forum - post.

Pauline, thanks! At least that's a start. I grabbed your code and I was able to use my admin account to post the video. But then I logged out and logged in with one of my non-admin accounts - and no luck. Frown

Hey Groupee! Can you help us out here. I pay good money for these services, and I really feel like I'm getting behind the times not being able to have folks post videos in my forums. It's 2007 and video has been the hottest trend for content on the web for almost a year.

Can we either get the embed command allowed on Eve, or get a way for non-admins to post videos by bumping up their HTML permissions? Everyone can already use HTML on my forums.

Please! Not seeing some movement in this direction on Groupees part would be enough for me to migrate my forums over to another platform. I pay an average of $150 per month and my forums are growing all the time. Average out $200/month and Groupee stands to lose $12,000 from me over the next five years. This ain't a threat. I just don't have time to monkey around. I need my forums to reflect the current experience on the web in 2007, and not being able to post videos is not cutting it anymore!

I'm also at the point unfortunately where If my users don't get the basics soon, I'm set for a mutiny, and I'm the captain going overboard.

I've got to start searching for new platform soon before it's too late.

I think we need to be told if EVE is going to be progressively improved, or is it is instead going to fade away with the investment going toward the new platform that Groupee is building.

The noise level is getting too high.

We put up a suggestion box recently and were bombarded with suggestions that seem so basic, yet seem so far away.

I put in a trouble ticket about this and they told me it was a bug, they were reporting it to development, and closed the ticket.

No. I go in as admin to any post where they put the YouTube video code and put in the open and close HTML tags and then it works. But only an Admin can do it - I don't know why.

Once the admin allows the following HTML tags in his forums settings, your users will then be able to embed You tube into the forums.

b,i,u,pre,img,CENTER,TD,TR,TABLE,P,FONT,BR,a,span,h2,iframe,object,param,embed

The above also allows flash.

Can we do this? I don't see a spot in the control panel which allows this. I have Disable HTML unchecked and UBBCode enabled and I still can't post HTML within posts as an Admin.

I was able to do it the way Pauline suggested with the HTML tags wrapped around it.

I sure hope The Man from Borneo is wrong. I like eve and hope they continue to upgrade the service for us.
