Any ideas on how I can integrate google adsense ads into the threads so they are visible as users are browsing down the thread discussion.

I have adsense on the tops, sides and bottom of my forums, but its not visible enough to generate the clicks that it could if it were inside the threads themselves.

Would also need the option to configure how often it shows up, i.e. following every 8th posting, etc.

Hi vhanna.

Remember that there are limits to how many ads you can put on a page. Your TOS with Google does say something about the maximum and there is a finite limit to the number of different ads you can fit within one page.

I do, however, like the idea of placing ads *within* the content. My eyes are trained to ignore the top and bottom of pages now. Ads placed where people read makes a huge amount of sense.

What do others do with their ad placements?

DanceAddict, thanks. Your site does integrate the ads well.

I operate a general classifieds website, and our forum definately underperforms the results on the classified site- hence my interest in improving results.

I asked this before and everyone thought I was nuts.....
I would love to have a ad intergrate after the first post of every page.

Adsense I believe allows 3 ads per page now.

One of the options could be to limit how many of these integrated ads show per page.

Right now I get about 20,000 - 40,000 pageviews on my forum per day, and I can barely buy a sandwich for what the adsense ads earn, but I would bet someone that same sandwich, that the ad revenue would go off the charts if the ads were integrated.

Help me out here fellas, I'm just a workin' man.

My other sense here tells me that many more webmasters would be interested in forums if they could generate more income from adsense.

Inegrating the ads in-line with the threads would in my opinion certainly help.

I am voting for the ability to have a "content island" set up after the first post to allow us to place any information that we want in there, to include the possibility of adsense.

If we could customize it, we could set it so that only non-members see the ad, or at least those that are no logged in. This way the ads don't get annoying for those that took the time to register and are most likely going to return versus those that are just stopping by once and no registering because they stumbled upon it in google. It could also be used as a tool to help convert guests to members, "login and get rid of this advertisement" kind of thing.

Great idea. Having it a content island would be perfect!

hi all.

adsense allows 4 ads per page.

i used to have mine at the page tops, between the header and my board content but i took the advice of MichaelF and put them to the right of my content, results have improved. jejejeje, sounds like an infomercial i know but it is true .

it took me FOREVER to build the right sidebar (a loooong story, see THIS THREAD) but i love the results.

the sidebar has given me a great space for the adsense and i added a shoutbox and some sponsor stuff too Cool

see http://spaintalk.multimadrid.org/groupee/forums

would love any feedback!!!

saludos,
jer...

Adsense would probaby quadruple in earnings if we had the option of integrating the ads inline with postings.

One option setting could be that premium members would not see those ads.

I believe that would make forums a greater profit center, both from the adsense ads and premium membership sales.

hey vhanna2.

please explain what you mean by "inline with postings".

do you mean having ad words appear as if they were posts, between members posts?

or do you mean having them in a column to the right and/or left of the posts like i have at http://spaintalk.multimadrid.org/groupee/forums ?

saludos,
jer...

For example, between your last post and this one, would be a horizontal google ad.

Only to display at a frequency that we chose to display with a setting in groupee admin, i.e. every 20th post, etc, or for non-premium members only, etc.

hi vhanna2.

got ya! if possible i think that would probably be the most annoying feature on earth.

yes, it would generate more clicks but i think it would put a lot of people off so it would not be a good idea to do it (if you could).

your pageviews (20,000 - 40,000 pageviews on my forum per day) are great. i have not seen your forums but with those numbers, you should have real sponsors wanting to put ads up and should not have to even use adsense.

my forums only get about 5,000 pageviews a day and i have a nice handful of paying (set amt. per 6 months or year) for banners, links and such.

just my 2 cents.

can you post the url to your community so we can see it?

saludos,
jer...

How could I integrate Google AdSense links into a search result page on our website?

Just use a template for your search page that includes google adsense somewhere on the page. If you use it on your standard forum pages, it should also be showing up on your searches unless you use a unique template for your search pages.

I can get the change the template for the advanced search form to change (by changing the templage for search) but can't seem to get the results page to change.

Any clues how to do this?

Is anybody doing this now, ie: embedding Adsense tags into individual postings?

This would be very useful for added revenue.

I added an Adsense tower ad to the right side of my forum pages toward the end of November 2006. I had an outstanding December and then January plummeted and February is even worse. This past week, Adsense ads stopped displaying the previous keyword focused ads and began serving one big ad in the space that didn't match my site's content. (My site is a midlife crisis support forum with more than 18,000 members and over 25,000 PVs a day.)

So far I'm unable to get any decent Adsense ads to display on the forum pages no matter where I put the coding (top, bottom, side).

I decided to try Adsense links. Considering that the payout is a fraction of even the big Adsense ad, that's a waste of prime space on my site.

For now I'm trying an Adbrite banner at the top, and moving the Adsense links and text ads to the bottom of the pages.

I'm very unhappy about how Adsense has been performing since the beginning of the year. Anyone else experiencing similar?

Pat
