I have started to design and implement holiday themes. I thought I would share these with you and to seek comments.

I plan on putting stuff like this up a few days before a holiday and then taking them down right after.

Is anyone else doing this? How does your membership feel about stuff like this?

i've found - both in personal community/messageboard use and with our customers - that users of sites geared towards hobbies or common interests usually like this kind of stuff. it adds a little extra fun.

Our community likes a whole holiday forum, our "Holiday Hang", which we put up every year for about 2-3 weeks. We take the forum down a few days after New Year's, and by the time people see it again the following December, they are inspired to post and/or read there.

Ill leave a link when the forum's gone live so you can see what I mean. I do think its a good way to acknowledge the holidays without changing the look and feel of the whole site.

For this forum, we also do a wintry or seasonal theme and use graemlins switched on only at this time of year. All of this reinforces the "special event" nature of the forum.
