We've got a content Island by default, which shows the last 10 (or however many) new users, what I want is one similar to this, but for birthdays. If the new user content island can poll the database, and show new users up to the minute, then it should be easy to have one that will check and display birthdays, equally as current.

I have the date of birth as a required field on my site; what I want is a content island that will query the user database, and will display something along this line:

January Birthdays

4 - John Smith
8 - User X
16 - John Doe
19 - Jane Doe
25 - Juan Q. Public
27 - SuzieQ

I'm not at all knowlegable on SQL, so I'm not sure how to do this myself, but I'm told there are some guru's 'round here that could do this pretty easily. Can anyone help me on this?

Ron it works great. Thanks for doing this. Now I am wondering how it can be tweaked to be able to show events. My site has things like holidays and strikes in Italy (it is for expats who live in Italy) and it would be great to have a list of the things happening in the following 7 days or something (not the whole month as that could be quite long) I would even love a topic island that would have all things, events, anniversaries and birthdays all listed for the following 7 days.

I know this isnt what you mean, but I wrote a Events Application in PHP that I am currently beta testing on a LAN party website:

It organizes participants for events. No where near what you wanted, but thought you might find it interesting.

What you would want would require its own database or other infrastructure to know what is going on in the world. How are you planning on inputting the world events?

Thanks Jonmark for responding. We enter all of the info into the calendar program that also has the birthdays listed. I got the program from Jasmin's site. When I used to use PHPbb I had a calendar (minical) that used to show upcoming events and it worked great. Would love to see something like this. I'm off to check out the link you gave now.

Yeah, that makes sense. I would imagine that could be done really well in Eve as well. You could use instant topics to converse about the events that are going on.

has anyone running the calendar tool looked to see what kind of bandwidth usage it generates? I'm wondering if moving it to a less visible area would help my bandwidth overages any...
