RSS is an XML format for news and content syndication, in which headlines and links to the actual content are made available to Web sites and users.

It will be available in version 1.2 coming soon.

You can "subscribe" to an RSS feed through many popular programs or you can use a script to retrieve and format these "news feeds" for your own web site.

Here are some RSS feeds for Infopop nation:

Recent News (Infopop and Product News)

I particularly like the way that FireFox browser will show a orange RSS feed icon on the bottom right corner and can add it to the "Live Bookmarks."

my.yahoo.com (if you use it) now has a place to enter RSS feeds so that they will appear on your personalized Yahoo "home page".

What are your recommendations for RSS readers ?

I use Firefox, but if I were to get into them heavily, I would use FeedDemon (http://www.bradsoft.com/feeddemon/index.asp).

Nick did such an amazing job with TopStyle, I would expect the same level of performance and quality in FeedDemon.

I use Trillian to manage my RSS feeds. In addition to its ability to handle the multiple IM Mediums, it has an RSS Feeder plugin Smile

How can I use a script to retrieve and format these "news feeds" for my web site?
Macromedia Central is a cool reader.

[Every CSS Reader has a way to add a feeed manually. Consult the Macromedia Central documentation and paste in one of the URLS listed above for testing..

Remember that these feeds are in the new version 1.2 -- not in 1.1.2. You will be able to see the RSS URLS in the control panel for content islands

Our feed on our site is broken (for the 2nd time) as well.

It's going to be a great feature once the bugs are worked out....

Hi Stonehaven

I see in the dev logs that this was fixed within minutes of the report. It will be in the next release to production.

I agree it will be a very good feature. I use it all the time now through FireFox "Live Bookmarklets" to see what's new here at the forums with a single click. I don't have to leave the page I'm on to do it.

I can't get any of the feeds here at infopop to work. It used to just give me an XML parse error, but now it just doesn't work at all. I've tried both the live bookmarks in firefox, and also installed the sage plugin, neither work Confused

Hi,

I don't see RSS in my content island selection.

Where should I be looking.

Eve Control Panel » Forum Content Management - Content Islands, click Preview/Get HTML, and the feeds will be listed below.

Ok got the feeds, and loaded them into the reader.

The Forum subject appears fine in the reader, but once you click on it, It errors.

Anyone at Infopop available to check it out ?

Thanks,
Victor

Same problem here; I'm guessing this is still the bug Michael mentioned on 14th?

That's the bug alright. It's fixed in the latest release running here. Very likely this will go out to production quite soon. It was atypo (ours) and very easy to fix.

My RSS is working.
1.Do we need to create a 1.0, 2.0 and atom as links to syndicate? Wouldn't 2.0 be enough?
2. Are you considering the ability to get a bit of a teaser. The way things are now we only see the titles. I understand that we want to draw users to the site but a teaser could help.

I think 2.0 is enough. Most modern readers handle it well.

As far as a teaser -- yes, it is under consideration. There are a few security issues that some admins may see as a cause for concern in including the actual content.

I assume we need to set the content island to "Assume Content Permissions - Guests". Correct?
