Hi all,

The forums I run are sponsored by a magazine, and the magazine is giving its website a facelift sometime in the next month or so. I'd like the new look of the magazine site to be replicated on the forums. Problem is, the magazine site is done with CSS, which I know nothing about. Roll Eyes

Here's the magazine site:

http://www.chronofhorse.com/The_Chronicle_Of_The_Horse/

All I really want to replicate are the tabs that go across the top of the screen, and I've figured out how to do that. What I can't figure out how to do is the style of the text within the tabs... the font, text color, etc.

If I include the code for the magazine site's stylesheet, it applies that to the entire page, which I don't want. I want the forums to stay looking as they do, and just replicate the tabs. And since I know zippo about CSS, I have no clue how to do this... can anyone help? Smile

Hi Erin

I'd delay this until you upgrade to eve -- it will save having to do things over again.

Likely you can insert the tabs code 'as is' in the 'After Opening Body Tag' section and you can include the CSS rel link tag for your site CSS in the HAED area.

Experiment by creating a hidden forums and creating a new style to test in it. You'll be able to look at the results before applying them to the forums at large.

It would be worth recruiting an HTML assistant for this project. None of it is very difficult but having someone very familiar with HTML will help it go smoothly.

Hi Michael,

One step ahead of you. Smile I've already set up a test forum and have worked out how to do the tabs... but when I use the CSS for the magazine site, it also affects the forums' link colors and fonts.

Here's a screen shot...

In order for this page to match the other site, the text on the tabs has to be black and not underlined... I don't know enough about CSS to know how I can apply a style to only one section of the page. Confused

I'll definitely wait til Eve before making any changes, though. Any word on when I might actually GET Eve? Wink

Hi Lil'Red

'Soon' I'm sure [I don't know schedules ...] If you'd like to enter a ticket directed to me with login details and where that forum and style are to be found, I'll be happy to take a quick look. In this case CSS is like dressage. If you've been at it for years you can spot problems with a glance. But if you haven't, it all looks like some secret art.
