The registration screen does not give any information about whether spaces are allowed in user names or what other characters might be illegal.

We have new members complaining that the system gives them an error message that they have entered an illegal password. Please list the rules for passwords right on the registration screen.

Also, add the same information to the Help screen for Login/Logout or make a separate help topic for registration.

A fair idea. You do want to keep text clutter to a minimum on any page. The mores text, the more daunting something like registration will be. One result of the internet page medium is that people read less not more of instructions

You can chnage the wordlet for Password and Username if you need to. You can add in brackets the text you want and have it appear. It will take experimentation. Rememember you can make and alternate wordlet set and apply it only to the registration section.

Rather than more verbose pages see every time you login/register, it might be better to have more verbose error messages when people put in annoying names.

I am getting complaints that they are told when they've entered an illegal user or pass, but neither they nor I know what the rules *are* and no help is in the error.

If I know what they are, I can write a sentence to describe it.

In the next release there is code to give more verbose errors during the registration or profile updating process for invalid fields. Most of the time username problems will be duplicate username issues. Where someone tries using a username that is already taken.

Though we have few limitations on password. So that one is a bit odd. The only thing I can think of is that their confirmation password must not have matched the new password... Just a thought.
