On UBB.x the topic subject row was wider.
Is there any way to set the width of the various rows? Topic Topic Starter Replies Views Rating Last Post Thanks |

This isn't customizable right through the control panel, but you can try this: Go to Eve > display > settings and change the Page Widths setting to 100% for the style you're using. Let me know if that helps. If not, there may be a way to do this in the custom XSL templates. Thanks for choosing Infopop. Cheers, Kimberly -- Kimberly Quan Business Affairs |

Hi Kimberly,
I'm familiar with the width for the overall forum GUI. But I'm interested in widening the now very narrow topic row. Can this not be done? Thanks |

Me too..
In the old forum board the coluns was spread equally acrross all space available but in the eve it the last colum (last message) was wider than most and take most of the space.. |

Dot...
I think Kimberly's suggestion was made because others who've had the problem of an itty-bitty topic column found it was 'fixed' post-eve conversion by setting the page width to 100%. While not as neato-keeno as being able to specify the actual colum width as a %age or by number of pixels, resetting the page width to 100% does more evenly distribute the columnar spacing. |

Actually, I've been able to fix all my columns by specifing my own css. Just copied it all from eve's css and made my own changes. Now I load my own css instead of eves and get everything like I want. Only glitch is still the overall page width has a 12px padding setting in the HTML that can't be over ridden using CSS. let me know and I'll attach my css code to one of my posts in this thread if you'd like to try it out

Hi -- we will be making a tweak to the XSL to make that last post coulm 'float' in width. There is an issue that goes with it that requires testing in beta.
We hate fixing one things and creating a worse problem .... I'd love to see the custom CSS too! Maybe just the classes you changed? Infopop Corporation |

We're having a similar problem with the column width. In our case, we need a wider column for the "Topic Starter" and less width for the "Last Post". Our members are complaining about having to scroll so much in each forum.
Could someone please take a look at our site and offer any ideas you may have? Our page width setting is already set at 100% Thanks!! |

Hello John
Horizonatl psace has always been at a premium in the software. One quick change is to hide the rating column. You can still rate topics individually but I notice that space is more or less blank now. You might consider showing only *one* of the two stats columns. Either will give you an idea of how active a topic is. The Topic Starter is tougher. By definition you have 2 and 3 part names and those will wrap. Actually I think that column looks good on your site. The extra space freed up from the 'last reply' column will help, certainly. A basic observations from experience. Admins tend to want to show off all the bangs and whistles on a board [human nature]. New users tend to find all the extra data bits daunting. Established users simply ignore them. When it comes to layout Simpler = cleaner = better. Infopop Corporation |

I'll post my version later (still tinkering) because I've found in some cases what you think you are changing isn't what changes. But for those interested in all the different classes used just check out the attached file.

We are set at 100% for page with right now, and I removed the ratings column and its still not big enough.
Michael as far as showing off features, me and my members can care less! I just want something simple that works when its susposed to. Something I would really like to see if to have the ability to go back to the origional interface we had with OpenTopic, or an option to give the individual users an option to disable it. I have been seeing too many problems from members who are not running the latest version of internet explorer or like their resolution in 800x600 I have been seriously considering just moving everything back to my origional server and run UBB Classic |

Hi Metro
>>Something I would really like to see if to have the ability to go back to the origional interface we had with OpenTopic, or an option to give the individual users an option to disable it. I'm afraid that isn't in the plans or seemingly in the future of most UI design out there. Browser display resolutions continue to climb year by year and the number of people running ancient browsers is dropping. I'm sure it's the same in your industry too. The dish that was state of the art in 1999 -- may not even be serviceable today. The same goes for browsers & web design from that era. Fortunately the cost of browsers and improved computers continues to drop wonderfully. Infopop Corporation |

Yea, we still have equipment in service today from 1999. It may not be worthwhile to repair it, but we still support the equipment and customers who have a system that is 5 years old are still able to use the product the same way they did back in 1999.
If the customer wants some of the newer features they can upgrade and buy new equipment, but what we have never done is tell customers that we are no longer supporting their product and forced them into an upgrade. |

As far as I know, there aren't plans to go back to the version 1 and 2 layout of OpenTopic.
As mentioned earlier, some space in that final column will be freed up in the next version. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Michael Farris, Infopop Corporation |

browser display resolutions?
don't you mean monitor display resolutions? Isn't it true that the monitor is the part of the computer most likely to be saved from year to year? My mom's using one from 1999. Her computer hardware and browser are 4 years newer than her monitor. My monitor is 2 years old and I'll use it another 3-4 on one computer or another. |

>>Browser display resolutions
I think you know what I mean. The resolution at which people browse have been changing. Where sites once were designed for 640 and made readable at 380, thye are now designed to be viewed at 1024 and made to be readable at 800. The number of of people running at 1600+ is surprising. The point here is that technology progresses. Finding the fine line between bleeding edge and old standards as they fade into history is tough. I didn't say that everyone would agree. Yes Toni... it is out and you're running it.
NB: To see what version you're running, click on the word "Eve" in the bottom border of any of your BB pages, just to the right of the lightbulb. Navigate to your Eve Control Panel » Eve » Display Settings » Styles... choose your 'Merchant' style and in its Style Editor you'll see a v. 1.0.3 addition: Last Column Width. This Last Column Width field gives you a minor ability to tweak your BB display pages. |
