In Version 1.2.10 of eve, we are replacing the archiving feature with a new automated partitioning feature.
The new partitioning is a big improvement over archiving because it combines the benefit of archiving, improved performance, while removing the major negative, that archived content was effectively dead (it could not be posted to). There are no partitioning settings. Eve automatically partitions content completely under the hood, but neither you nor your users will ever even know whether a particular piece of content is partitioned or not, because partitioned content is viewed and posted to just like any non partitioned content. Think of partitioning as a system function designed to improve performance, especially for larger sites with lots of posts stored. There will no longer be a method to archive content either manually or automatically because it will no longer be necessary. A few sites have been specifically restricting access to archived content for a certain reason and for that we apologize for the feature change, but please keep in mind that the overall purpose of archiving was to improve system performance. Partitioning is a big improvement over archiving in that regard, since it does not alter a user's ability to post to old content. Important: Existing archived content will no longer be marked as archived. Note that this change has not been deployed to your community yet. This is simply advance notice. The change will take effect when version 1.2.10 is officially released to your site (again, within the next few weeks). This message has been edited.
