I've got an idea that might cure the whole posting everytime groupee goes down. Why not create a script to load gp_request.jsp, and if the script doesn't receive a proper page from the jsp, then change the status indicator. April could probably even write a PHP script to email the staff when it detects an error Smile That might cut down on the whole Groupee Was Down posts everytime it barfs (hopefully not as often now Wink )

Hi Ron,

We've already got monitoring in place for it Smile The only problem was that the script wasn't properly detecting when Groupee went down. We just tracked down the problem yesterday, so there shouldn't be the delay between Groupee going down and Infopop restoring service anymore.

In addition, just today we upgraded the software that Groupee runs on to the latest version that should have some bug fixes to prevent the crashing problem that had been happening. Cross your fingers, and hopefully Groupee won't go down again. Ever Wink

Sometime within the next week, we're also going to be deploying a complete failover environment for Groupee with redundancy at the application server and database level that should prevent any downtime of the Groupee service. Our goal is 100% uptime and we won't accept anything less Smile Of course, there have been some bumps in the road thus far, but hopefully we've ironed most of the problems out by now.

I wasn't super concerned, I just thought a public status page might not be a bad idea for others to check the status. Just incase a user thinks it is down, when infact they are having some other issue Smile

Well...there was an issue on my end...but Groupee was down. I don't see a problem with posting a message if it is down or there is a problem, that is what the forums are for...

The posts are posed as a question but I've done some checking and each time it has turned out to be down which I was pretty sure it was. Making a post about it brings a little more attention to the fact that a good backup plan is needed. As often as it has been down lately, I'm sure it has probably gone down a few other times that either someone didn't post about, someone posted a trouble ticket that none of us saw or I wasn't online Smile

The public status page you're looking for is http://groupee.com - if you can get there, then Groupee is up Wink We've got other ways internally of monitoring the system status, of course.

I don't think there is a problem with posting when you are having issues with Groupee or suspect it is having issues. As I said in my previous post, though, I won't be surprised if you suddenly stop noticing Groupee being down because it should be a lot more stable now. In that case, it'll be a moot point because you'll have no need to post Smile
