I just realise that Groupee's term and services have this term:
"In order to use Groupee, you must be at least 13 years old."

As I know, if a person under 13, he/she must get parental permission before the site collects its data.

And Eve actually provide this feature too, so why set this rule in Groupee term and condition?

What happen if a site who want to accept membership for person under 13, which provide parental permission and use Groupee system?

It doesn't really make sense, when Eve provide a parental permission feature, and Groupee limit it use.

That's just my opinion! Smile

Hi 037,

Good points. We'll discuss this internally and come up with some resolution on the issues you have raised.

The COPPA support in Eve was designed initially prior to Groupee being introduced, and it still makes since in the context of non-Groupee sites. We'll consider the implications of COPPA on Groupee-enabled sites as well.

Brian,

Thanks!

BTW, do you know for those site owner who are not based in US, do they restrict by COPPA (because Infopop server is in US)?

Also you may interest in this too: http://kids.passport.net/?lc=1033

Microsoft introduced Kids Passport for childern under 13. Maybe Infopop could implement something similar? :P Kids Groupee!

Hi 037,

I can't give legal advice as far as whether or not you should enable COPPA based on your location. Perhaps other site owners located outside the US can comment? Of course, your best bet is to consult a lawyer Smile

Hi 037- we are making some changes to Groupee overall over the next month or so, so any changes in terms of TOS would be included in that time frame.

Thanks!

just checking the Groupee Network TOS, look like this rule remain the same. I am wondering any plan to change this rule? if not, I probably choose to move the membership system out of the Groupee network

Hi 037-

Actually, there should be no such wording in that Terms of Use. The Groupee Network never checks for age and certainly does not collect or store such info. In fact, it is up to each participating network site to set and enforce whatever age limits it wants (and Groupee Community provides the age check tools to do so).

I'm guessing that the network TOS simply is not the correct version. I know that we had a version that excluded that wording. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I'll check on this tonight and correct as necessary.

Thanks!
