We've been running on OpenTopic since July last year and the forums have proved a great success.....the members even got together to create an on-line radio station too.

That is a sweet design. I like it a lot, especially the layout of the index page.

We do have quite a few forums, in fact until recently our front page only showed the categories, but most people are happy now that weve moved back to 'showin' it all!'

All of the forums are pretty active, but the forums are all quite different - some act as an informal technical support repository, we have one pure chat & discussion forum. By having more differentiated forums we find it easier for new members to get to the information they want.

In fact our members keep inventing new forum ideas for us!.

Its a pity that OpenTopic doesnt allow the re-ordering of forums too easily (or does it?).

Interesting feedback. Some new users get intimidated by numerous forums, but it sounds like yours are eating them up! Every forum is different though, you gotta go with what works!! smile

In ref to: "Its a pity that OpenTopic doesnt allow the re-ordering of forums too easily (or does it?)." ...

OpenTopic does allow for re-ordering of forums, it's quite easy too.

1. Log into your control panel
2. On the left hand navigation, scroll down to Forums & Catagories and select "Catagory Mgmt."
3. From here, you can either re-order your catagories or click on "forum managment" to re-order the forums in each catagory.

Pretty simple! smile

Boy, the blue boards are popular around here! It looks great Jonpanky. I LOVE the rubix cube custom graphic! smile I also really like the way you have organized your forums. It appears very clean to the eye. What amazes me most though is the amount of activity you have on a board that is so new - Each one of your forums is hopping with action! Do you have moderators starting conversations or just really eager members?

By the way, my poision of choice would be a cape cod! razz

Wow! People really like their decade shows! I gotta admit, though, that 80s show theme song is one dang catchy tune.

Hey all, I have a somewhat small-beans movie review site that has slowly and surely been increasing in traffic. I put up my forum about a month and a half ago, and am getting lots of people *looking* but not posting! Grrr... there are only so many different names I want to come up with, registering myself as "different" posters, know what I mean? I figure that people back out, thinking that the forum is not very active, and therefore not very interesting. frown

Anyways, here's my movie forum:
http://www.moviepie.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

Check it out!

Hey, I liked your site! I am a huge movie lover so I will be checking in on it when I have time! smile Your reviewer Linda has superb taste. wink As far as the board goes, maybe some more discussion links would be good .. like "Feel like discussing the year's best film?" type of thing.. that you could link to a topic or forum. You might also want to try holding a contest, or run more polls. Both encourage posting.

Good luck!

Dan - awesome board! Great customization!

moviepie - check out how he linked some of his discussions from his website to his board. This is a good way to promote the forums.. and similar to what I was suggesting earlier! smile

Hey web-bastard,

My suggestion would be first to upgrade because the newer versions have some really fun features for your users -- you could run polls about favorite characters, etc. etc.

But either way -- upgrading or not, I would suggesting adding some color to the board. It's a little bright on the eyes right now. You could use the colors for the show: http://www.that70sshow.com/ -- and that way the board will feel more connected to its theme.

smile

Just a warning b4 you look. My UBB/ site revolves around an alternative lifestyle. While the site is not pornagraphic in nature some may find it offensive.

The Swingers Board

I would like to thank all of you who have checked it out in the past and given me some great tips for improvement. Posting has picked up quite a bit lately big grin

Here's mine.

I'd love to upgrade to a new version, but it's simply too much money. Sometimes I wish I would have gone with one of the freeware boards out there, but once you are stuck, you are stuck.
