Nice but I would center the top banner over the text portion by creating a left frame that goes from the top of the page to the bottom. by doing that you could close the spaces between your nav buttons and create a frameless frame where scrolling is not needed. You may also want to decrease your font size just a notch. Confining the text to a smaller area makes the task of reading the page not seem so overwhelming.
Personally, I would stay away from the background image. These days, implementing a bg image is an antiquated approach to web development. You've deployed a good use of the icons in various places, but you should stay away from the large font sizes in the title descriptions and in your main navigational panel. Lastly, the pop-ups are extremely annoying! Pay http://dynamicdrive.com a visit to get some ideas. You'll be surprised at how easy placing some stunning dhtml scripts into your pages will be.
Thanks for the advice. I'm currently working on a major upgrade, and I'll let you know when I'm done. Regarding the pop-ups, I too get really mad when I visit my site, but I can't do anything about it . Maybe I'll try another free web hosting service.
While I admit I haven't done extensixe research on web hosts, I've used www.netfirms.com a for a couple of months. They don't inundate your screens with irritating pop-ups but they do place a banner on every page (which is fairly acceptable for most folks...especially considering the space is free) Banner-free hosting is $60 a year - not bad. Just a thought...good luck!
