The great main use of our forum (by UBB) is a place for enthusiasts to come and look for information, which means it's more helpful to keep threads up, and to keep images of the products up.

So the delima I'm running into is disk space. I'm at 100.63% of our allocated disk space and I do want to keep the space under control. With the expected use of the board (by customers/enthusiasts), what would be the best practice in regards to:

1) Pruning
2) Closing
3) Images

I appreciate it, as I recognize that the forum is a loose form of a Knowledge-Base and I don't want to impact this.

One practice I read here that I want to start right now, is deleting members that have 0 posts and have been registered for 6 months or more.

Hi Jason:

Regarding members - depending on how many you have, that could help a little, but you probably won't see a huge impact on your disk space usage.

In terms of pruning, I would look for old threads - especially in general conversation or off-topic forums - that you can do away with.

Closing won't do anything for you in terms of saving space, except discourage unnecessary posting...

While this won't affect images you're already storing, it would be good to check the size of attachments and photos you allow. Generally, I would recommend a limit of 100 KB per photo - you can still get a very decent-quality image (for web-browsing) at that size. Photo Album settings are in your control panel under Forums>>Master Settings>>Advanced tab>>Photo Albums. Attachment settings are per-forum, in the control panel under Forums>>Specific Forums>>Forum Details>>Posting Settings tab>>Attachments.

Let us know if you have any questions about this. Smile

Thanks Kate.

I did some pruning at what not, but I guess if we want a Knowledge-Base style forum for our members, we have to accept a larger disk size use.

Thanks for your post!

Hey Benchmade, we recently ran into the same problem you are having. We opened a account with www.photobucket.com and manually went through and edited every post to point their pictures there. It took 3 days with 10 people working round the clock, but we got er done. We then asked our community to utilize this free service and gave them a bunch of reasons why it is beneficial to them and us.

hope this helps.
