One trick to get people to participate is to register yourself under several usernames and have conversations with yourself.
Sounds crazy, but if you can make some good threads you might draw people in to post.
As far as initially attracting users, I would add your site address & description to your email signature and your newsgroup signature. This way whenever you email someone or post to a newsgroup your addy will be in your message. You'd be surprised how many people will click on those addy links. You also might make a few general posts to some newsgroups related to the subject (but don't spam those groups either).
Since your site deals with games, you might try getting one or two school-age kids to join which will hopefully prompt them to tell other kids to join.
One marketing technique that worked for me was to find a highly visited web site and ask the webmaster to post my site as a news item, or in their links section. Make sure the description given is good and really sells your site.

Well being 18 myself i dont tend to play games as much as i used to i just wanted the challenge of making something to surpass my original talent (so to speak)and really i dont know many school kids! well i do have 26 members! but i guess my site has only been running for about 5-6 days now so i guess thats not too bad!
