If by "ban unregistered members" you mean keep people out of your message board without having to resort to a "private" board, yes (IF you're on a Unix server) If you are, it can be done with a .htaccess file.

You can keep their IP address from accessing the board, but if they are using something like AOL that uses a "pool" of IP addresses, you can't ban them without banning a lot of other folks too.

Which product are you using?

With UBB.classic you can enable the Members Only Access in the Control Panel, which will require members to be registered and logged in to view the community.

All of our products have a setting that requires visitors to be registered and logged in to view or to post. Let us know which you're using and we can give more specifics. smile

I am using UBB Classic 6.3.1.1. I know that I can set the forum to only allow registered members to be able to post. But I was wondering can I restrict certain unregistered members if the need arises?

Yes, you can ban members by both email address/ email domain names and IP addresses...

You can remove the posting rights of an individual member by going to Members>>View/Edit Member Records and then searching for that user. Choose "No" for "May post messages?"

You can ban by IP and Email by going to Additional Settings>>IP & Email Ban Lists.

Hi Kate,

My query was for unregistered individuals. I guess the answer is no for them.

Thanks for your help.

You can have your board to generally require registration for posting, and have certain forums where unregistered are allowed to post.

Antwan -
If the system isn't aware that the member exists, it wouldn't know to ban them. Banning only exists for registered members. Sorry I misread your question. smile
