I want to get rid of a whole categories on our bulletin board, which contains 4 forums, but I don't want to lose the topics underneath these forums I just want to move these topics to a new category. I can find no way of doing this without deleting the whole topics, any ideas please?

Here's how to mass move topics in OpenTopic:

In your control panel, go to Categories & Forums.

Locate the forum whose content you wish to move and click "Manage Topics" to the right of the forum name.

Select the topics you wish to move. Since you're moving everything, scroll down to the bottom of the list of topics and click the "Select All" link.

Then, scroll down to "Topic Management Actions" and from the "Move Selected Topics To:" drop-down box, select the name of the forum you wish to move the content to. Then hit "Go".

Do this for each of the forums you wish to remove. Then, you can delete the original forums (now empty).

Another option if you just want to keep the forum under a different category is to change the Category that the forum lives in before deleting the category...

Just a thought. More than likely you would want to do something like crate a Archive Forum and move topics to it. Though, to be efficient I would take the Forum with most topics, move it to the category you want the archived Forum to reside in, and then rename it and set it up as the archived topics forum. Then you can move the topics from the smaller forums to it.

That will save you a lot of topic moving.
