We are hoping a deleted member will rejoin our forums. Is there a way that he can re-register and assume ownership of his past posts? Or could we export and re-import them somehow?
Thanks. |

Hi Carecurejeff
Unfortunately not. Each member has a unique OID in the database. A new member gets a new OID and associating it with old posts is possible only in a technical [read very expensive] sense. If you do need to restore a certain status to a user, you might consider a custom title. Of course the user can choose a display name the same as the old one. This will associate old posts visually but the user won't be able to edit them. Infopop Corporation |

Thanks, Michael.
I wonder if we could export all posts, separate the ones by this user, delete those posts from the forum, then re-import them from the export file... We might have a volunteer or two from our community who could work on this. |

Yes -- though hand editing an XML file is not what I'd consider an easy task.
You can export, unzip and edit the XML. You have to be very sure that you maintain the XML node rules. Tags all open and close and are nested in a firm structure. The parser in the importer is utterly unforgiving. Then re-upload the file. You need to upload only 'his' posts with a user OID that matches his new profile. A tough one. Infopop Corporation |
