I was reading through this interview especially the Open Topic parts and the bottom says that they are hoping to release OT some time in April. Here is the OT part of the article:
quote:
Q: What else do your programmers have in the pipeline at the moment, such as the enterprise solution you're developing? We have been working on OpenTopic pretty furiously over the last year. OpenTopic is our next-generation message board that is available strictly as a hosted solution. We are very excited about OT because it will allow us to deliver a truly scalable solution for our larger customers and to offer improved features for everyone. OT uses XML and XSL, which means that every displayed page can be completely redesigned in any manner to suit our customers needs. It also adds polling, ratings, moderator queues, member approval options, flexible security groups, and data analysis options. We feel strongly that OpenTopic sets a new standard for message boards on the internet.
Because we will be hosting OT, we will be able to control the application environment, which means tight security, no installation requirements, automatic upgrades, and unlimited scalability. Some of our current UBBers will no doubt want OT to be available as a download, but it simply does not work as a downloadable product. This is not a Perl script and it requires a complicated server configuration in order to run properly. In addition, we wanted to make sure that we can continue to improve the product quickly and efficiently for all of our customers. The only way to do that is to manage the hosting environment. At the same time, we allow OT customers to access all of the data we store for them, so there is no loss of control for the site owners themselves, and they have the same browser-based control panel they are familiar with from the UBB.
Although OT is a completely new product, it can look and feel just like the UBB, if you like, using our "Classic UBB" option. We also have conversion tools that allow our UBB customers to easily upgrade to OT without losing any posts or registrations. OpenTopic will become our flagship product, but we will continue to support the UBB, as well! OT should be available sometime in April.
Aside from OpenTopic, we will be developing complimentary community products this year, including chat and mailing lists. Our goal is provide websites with the very best tools for building and maintaining communities. We also aim to integrate those pieces as much as possible.
