I get the whole "intellectual property" issue, but I thought this would be an interesting idea.
opentopic/ubb.x seems to be becoming a core security-based login system with a forum database. (because of eve) idea: keep the core security your product. you control the login and keeping people from exploiting the system. this is your baby. the rest goes open source, people can write or edit add-ons to access your API. they're reviewed for major bugs/issues prior to integration. No way would there be any reason to simply let them be put onto your servers. you know the search is one of the low points of the software (in comparison to the great security system). a hacking effort, per the linux kernel group logic, is one of the most powerful things a software company can have unless they like 2-year release cycles. Ars has seen this several times. http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?q=Y&a=tpc&s=50009562&f=34709834&m=2920945395 http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=6330927813&m=4890972085&r=8950911185 these are two people who are statistics whores. I understand that the scale isn't there for what a forum receives, but that they have the skill to mess around with search queires. That someone wrote a program to get the person with the highest number of locks in their spare time is impressive. along with the official search program being done. http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=frm&s=50009562&f=51009562 and my way http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=51009562&m=3430958335 why not open up the items like the search that aren't required to keep the rest working? I'm sure you have a good reason, but I've never seen this brought up. I understand that not every forum has the same level of programming experience http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=frm&s=50009562&f=6330927813 but I think people willing to do the hard stuff for free is worth the hassle on some of the not-required items. Linus sure thinks so. On a related note, what version of oracle are you using? We're doing Oracle 8 and asp in one class. In another we're getting into java servlets. You don't have jobs that can be done remotely do you? |

While we aren't going to put an Open Source sticker on our codebase, we are planning to do things along this line. Although the upcoming release of eve will not have a developer API, it was built with one which we hope to release later. The API will allow a module writer to do a great deal of things while still using out security. Eve is being talked bout over here http://community.infopop.net/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=729094322&f=479091422&m=1423069237.
Currently we are using Oracle 8. |

As I undersand it, the entire search system has been reworked for the next version.

I heard about the search being reworked. The slow, slow, slow advancement is good when it comes.
come on Barry, why not a big Penguin? You know you want too. I saw eve, and it looks like an interesting idea. Oracle 8. Heh. I know the basics of oracle 8. SQL+ is one archaic program |
