I can't post a reply today. Every time I click on "Reply," it gives me the "Page Not Available" message in the pop-up window.

http://boards.statefans.com/1/OpenTopic?a=frm&s=253199141&f=953199141

This is very frustrating as I can't moderate or carry on a discussion right now.

The only way we can reply is to use the "Quick Reply" option. This is a work around but many users prefer the "Full Posting Form" for ease of emoticon, url, etc use. Please look into this ASAP.

I just don't understand why the level of service at OpenTopic has gone off the deep end. We used to never, ever have any problems. Now it is something once a week.

Currently it appears that there is a problem on the Aztec /1/ cluster where the Post Reply button and the delete function are not working and the "Page is not Available" error page is displayed.

We are working on the problem at this time - thanks for your patience.

Realize that they
1. rebuilt the database design
and
2. added insane levels of complexity to the UI
and
3. redid the search indexes (on some clusters).
and
4. did a semi-major change for 3.x to allow for new features
all around the same time.

a more complex system has more chances for errors. (remember the jurassic park [book] idea of system control and stability [minus the dinosaurs]?)

I dare say their issues are caused by their own solutions. Fancy technology is no replacement for what already works.

I don't really want to get into some argument, but I don't need excuses as to why I can't give our users the access they are used to. I need for them to have access.

Hello everyone,

We had a problem with the connections that were being made to the database being dropped. A restart of the database seems to have fixed the problem. Please let us know if you experience any further problems of a similar manner ("The page you request is not available").

I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and your users.

Regards,

I've been receiving a couple of reports of a problem where users are being told that "Message Body is a mandatory field. You must enter a value for it." -- even when they've got everything filled in properly.

Is this related to the database issue?

Hi Dan,

No, this sounds like a totally different issue. Do they get this error when posting a topic or a reply? Or both? Is there any further information that you can provide about the exact procedure used to replicate this problem? Is the error coming up in a javascript popup or does it show in the main reply window? Does the problem happen when using the quick reply or the full popup reply? Have you been experiencing this problem personally? What operating system and browsers are being used by users experiencing these problems? I know that this problem has been reported before, but I don't know if we came up with a solution for it.

Please let me know what you are able to find out so that we can try to investigate further Smile

About the Message Body is a Mandatory Field.... I'm registered with Univision.com Forums (Open Topic) as a user and every time I try to log in from a Topic already posted or that I'm goig to reply to that topic I get the "m is a mandatory field, you must enter a value for it" and it's really anoying because they have a login script in the index page of the site that tells me I'm already loged in and when I go to the forums to post something or reply I'm loged out and then when I try to login from a topic or a forum's list I get the "m is a mandatory field" message..... hope this gets fixed soon... Wink

Hi David,

The error you are reporting here is actually different from the Message Body is a mandatory field problem. Univision uses custom XSL on their site, so it's a possibility that they have a bug in their XSL, but I can't be sure. You might bring that problem to the attention of their site's administrators to see if they can look into it. I'll see if I can forward your message to them as well.

It might be a bug on their XSL probably because they have been doing some changes to the design of the forums. They would never listen to their users I don't know if it is because of the so many registered users they have or because they don't really care what the users are saying because I have e-mailed them several times about other problems in their forums like security related issues or links missing and they will never reply to me so it will be great if you forward them my message to them. Smile

Thanks Brian

I believe that it's both new messages and replies.

Comparing notes from members afflicted with this problem indicates that it's something to do with pasting text from another application into the message field.

This problem has been reported with both IE and Mozilla.
[quote[Is the error coming up in a javascript popup or does it show in the main reply window?[/quote]
No, it's the main reply page -- instead of the "success" message, they get the page that tells them to go back.

Both, AFIK.

I have not experienced this problem personally -- but that's probably because I use a Macintosh. Big Grin All of the complaints have come from Windows users.

Hi Dan Smile

This problem was also reported over here:
http://community.infopop.net/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=729094322&f=3983010105&m=2303042196&r=4133062696#4133062696

Definitely does seem to have something to do with pasting text to the textarea. I'll forward on to the UI team to see if they have any ideas.

Hey, David et. al. -- I've been looking at this, and I'm not sure what could possibly be causing this problem. We do use plenty of custom XSL, and we have been making changes lately, but nothing that should affect something like this. Could you tell me exactly where this occurred and exactly what you did? I can't duplicate it myself, and I need to be able to do that to do anything, really.

By the way, I can tell you that our moderators in Miami, whom you've probably been e-mailing, pretty much care about nothing but what the users say. They all work 10 or more hours a day dealing with these things and forwarding concerns to myself and others. Sorry if you haven't been getting replies, but I'd certainly say their concern about our users and their various and sundry problems borders on panicky.
