I've noticed that when a message is posted it will display as not receiving either any Views or maybe just 1 - even after a few hours of being posted.
This View count status won't change until either a reply is made to that post or an entirely new post is made within the same Category. Is this normal behaviour? I would expect it to be a more or less real-time count. Clearing the Forum's cache also updates the View count status, but I don't like to do that too often. Thanks in advance. |

This is correct behavior. Yes, the page views only update when something effects the cached page.
Page Caching improves the performance of the application on the whole. The only minor drawback would then be the page view issue in your case. Regards, Brett Harris |

Thanks for the clarification.
I would request as a "new feature", assuming it won't impact other things, the ability to have a more real-time message view count. |

Thank you - I can see your point, we will put that on the white board for mid-term discussion and planning.

I was searching through looking for information about page views/counts and saw this thread. I actually have an inverse issue. It seems that page views are being allocated to threads prior to additional actual hits. For example, people are posting private messages and before the invited person can respond there are multiple page views being shown.
How can this occur? Does this necessarily mean that others/admins are viewing these pages? Thanks |

Can someone please define how page views are calculated? I understand that it may be a bit more complicated than one might think.

A page view is just how many times the page was sent to a browser. For instance, lets say that I create a private topic and then invite two other people.
There will be one page view when I post it because the application returns you to your topic (the first view). If I check back later to see if there are any replies, that is a page view. Any time I hit refresh, thats a page view. If someone views the page and doesn't reply, still a page view. If you are using the older Infopop II (aka 2.x) interface then the reply window usually includes the topic in an IFRAME, hence another page view for each time you reply (plus being returned to the topic after replying increments the page view). It is actually pretty common to have a large # of views on private topics (and normal topics too). Hope that clarifies it. Steven Benitez Infopop Enthusiast |
