We tried exporting the XML but the import said existing members would not be overwritten.

Do we need someone to fire off a SQL update directly on our membership database?

Or is there some way we can do it ourselves?

We want to put everyone in an "adult" category if 18 or over.

No, it will not. The XML import only works for adding new users, if there is already a user with that login it will skip that entry and move on.

Sorry, but we designed it as an importing feature, not updating. It tries to maintain existing data wherever possible.
