When exporting all the forum topics, are style settings also saved?

Does a full topic export save everything so the full forum can be restored later? (If not, what isn't saved, and how can I save it?)

Thanks,

Robert

Hi Robert. The style settings are not saved. Though that is a good idea and something we should work on supporting.

Currently the export will only export the data side of things: forum info (but not styles), message data, and users.

Hi Peter,

I've got 25+ Styles for all the different kids forums. If I lost them, I don't think I'd have the energy to re-create them.

Is there at least a way to individually save/export them, or something?

Are they saved when InfoPOP does a backup?

Robert

Hi Robert. We save the data when we do a backup (nightly). However, that is a backup of the whole database. And we cannot partially restore certain records. i.e. if you accidentally deleted one of your styles, our data backup is not going to be much help to you.

I will work to get some kind of "save my site and its settings going" as soon as we can can.

Hi Peter,

Might the "save my site and its settings" feature be a part of the 2.2.0 release?

Hi Robert, I'll see what I can do (but please don't hold me to it).

OK Robert, here is something you can do in the interem to tide you over. I hope you know a bit about html because if you dont this is going to be greek. wink

Goto the edit style page for the style you want to backup. Save the html page to your harddrive (alt-f, a), be sure to place it where you will know where it is. This will be your backup, so you may want to name it something that you can identify the style from. Ex: Style_name-Backup.html

Now that you have the html on your HD, you need to edit the file. look for 'name=st type=hidden'. Just after that there should be a value=[number] replace the [number] with "" and save the file.

Now if you want to restore that style, just load the HTML file into your browser of choice, and click the update style button. You need to be logged in on your site as a user with the right permissions (Admin will work).

Note: this will create a style with the same name, same everything, the only thing that will not be the same is the style OID, a new one will be generated for it. The new style will not be applied to anything either, it is new, just with the same colors and images as the old one.

So Apply it where you want it and your good to go.

This is a work around. It will work, but it is a work around.

Hi Robert,

Another way to save your style without needing to make HTML changes is to go to the style settings page for the style you wish to save and click on the "Clone Style" button at the bottom of the page. You can then save the following page that is generated and won't need to make any modifications. As soon as you want to use that style again, open up the html page that you saved in a browser, name the style as you wish, and hit update settings. The style will be restored.

Would it be possible to add a 4th option to the Export Content selection:

Export Webspace Files

That way I can backup the hundreds of Webspace files we have when I backup Members, Site Settings and Topics each week.

It might only require one line of code to ZIP the files for export. Possibly a small modification of the code to export Topics

I see there is a maintenance update planned for August 25.
quote:
Groupee, Inc. will be performing some routine maintenance on your server the night of August 25th at 10:00 PM PDT. This maintenance is the first step in upgrading some components in the OpenTopic environment, namely hardware, database software, and the operating system.

Would it be possible to include this in that upgrade?

OpenTopic is no longer being developed (though it is still supported), so I don't think its very likely that you will see enhancements done to the export feature.
