I'd like to get some more information about managing private topics through OpenTopic. Ours is a relatively small community, and so we don't really have a need for having private topics per se. Some of us admins and mods are also concerned about elitism and secrecy if we allow normal (i.e. 3 or more participants) private topics.
Is there a way to set up private topics so that they're limited to only two participants? Basically, we'd like them to function more like the private messaging system that's set up for the UBB.classic and UBB.threads systems. Thanks, Dan Carlson, Administrator, Subspace Comms Network A Proud Mac User! |

Hi Dan,
Currently, this feature is not available. There is no way to limit the number of participants a user can invite to a private topic. Regards, Brian Lenz Infopop Corporation |

Here's an idea: Limit the 'Who Can Post Topics?' right for the private topic forum to only administrators. That way registered members can view and reply to private topics they have been invited to, but only administrators can start the conversation.
This is useful for communicating one-on-one with users regarding forum policies without bringing it up in the open. Not quite what you asked for but it would cater to the concerns you mentioned. |

Well, that could solve some of the problems, yes. But I was thinking more of normal members contacting other normal members. Not everyone likes to post their e-mail address, and having one-to-one private topics would help get around that reluctance.
Thanks anyway, Dan Carlson, Administrator, Subspace Comms Network A Proud Mac User! |

Excuse me for butting in, but this seems like the right place to ask this question.
When I try to create a PT for more than 23 people, and click on 'Confirm Participants' it just hangs. The mouse down feature works, but it asks as if there is no link associated with the button. I'm using Windows XP Professional and IE6. If there is no limit to the number of people I can invite, why does it hang? cruzn ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "He who laughs ... lasts" |
