I want to (I thought I had already) disable any user from utilising any feature that involves sending an email (with the noticeable exception of forgot your password)
I thought I had done this, but still over 200,000 emails are getting sent. I also want to ensure that any existing subscriptions to threads are wiped clean. Any ideas on all the things I need to be checking? |

I would imagine the bulk of the emails are from topic notifications. Have you checked that "Only groups specifically granted access" can use the "Forum Notification Tool Options" in forum settings.
And I presume that you've not been sending out mass emails recently? With a community your size its not going to take many send outs to reach 200K emails. There should be a mass email history available to you on the mass email page. Oh, and under "all site-wide settings", under "Site-wide Notification Tool Options" have you restricted "Who Can Request Notifications for Members' Posts?" BTW: we do security checks when we go to send out emails. So if a user already has a subscription, they will need to have the permission to get the email _at the time the email is being sent_. |

quote: This is set to "Only Groups Specified Access" and Never quote: This problably was the cause of a lot of my problems. I've removed this access. With regards to your security checks, if someone has a topic flagged before and now I've removed that option they wont get the email now will they? Is there a server process that can be done to clear down the subscriptions or is it not required? |

Hi Marc,
If a user previously had a subscription to a topic or forum and you removed their ability to receive notifications by changing the Forum Notification Tool Options security (for all of the notification options listed), then those users will no longer receive notifications, despite the fact that they still have subscriptions. Only administrators and users specifically granted access via security groups will be able to receive notifications. I hope that helps! Regards, Brian Lenz Infopop Corporation |
