Generally Moderators are used to "Moderate" or "Monitor" a forum. They often function as peacekeepers, enforcing the rules that the site administrator dictates.

AKA: If on your board you don’t want people swearing, you would have your moderators enforce that rule (There are always ways around filters). So that if someone was to swear in a post, the moderator could edit the post, &^%$* out some of the characters, and then warn the person. When push comes to shove I believe they can ban members too.

Bottom line, moderators can be your best friend, or your worse enemy. Be wise when choosing who you make a moderator.

one more thing i want to know is ,,
moderator is having a separate login which is identifying the moderator from other users,right?
so after that, all the messages within that forum should be managed by the moderator, right?
so every message, before displaying on the forum should pass through the moderator screen for check??????

Means actually how the moderator will keep check on the messages or some words in the messages?
