I would like to know if it is possible to do the following:

I would like to create a forum in which topics are viewable only by the original posters and other security groups such as moderators that are allowed. In other words, only the creator of the thread can view the topics they created. All other people must have the security clearance to read the topics.

I don't know if this is possible because there seems no way to set "original poster" as one security group.

I don't know if "Private Forum" would allow this or not.

Thank you for your help in advance.

A private topics forum isnt exactly what you want, but it will get you the closest you will get to what you want. A private topics forum allows users to create topics and list contacts that can participate in it. Moderators or administrators still dont have access to it. Which is the prime difference between what it does, and what you want.

That does not sound too good.

Can Infopop make "Original Poster" as a default security group in the next version?

I believe you actually already have a way to monitor who is the original poster.

Hello Directron

There are chnages to the security model in the next major version but an original posters group isn't one of them.

>>In other words, only the creator of the thread can view the topics they created. All other people must have the security clearance to read the topics.

The crux of the problem is that a current security rule is that you have to be able to view the forum in which you post. Limiting someones right to *view* a forum is simple -- but that means the user can post there either.

What are you trying to accomplish with the technique? This may help.

It may be possible to create a private topic. This something only the owner can see, of course. Under some circumstances an adminsitrator can see these through the control panel but you should know this particular right is disappearing.

We use the forum to do customer services when a customer creates a thread to let us know of a situation that we need to address. We would like only hte creator of that thread to be able to read it. Currently, we set it up so that only registered visitors can read it, that could mean anybody.
