Any time we try to access the main front page of our forum, we get the message "The page you requested is not available," in the standard style template of the forum. All of the interior pages seem to be working properly, though.

What's going wrong?

I'd recommend filling out a support ticket for the fastest service.

I've found the problem, and am fixing it now. Should be OK in a few minutes.

This is a problem that we are encountering on our site today as well (April 29, 2003). On the front page of the site, it says "The page you requested is not available". However, the link to carecure.atinfopop.com on the error page will show the front page of the site. There is also an error in the displayed topic list where instead listing the person who posted a new replay, there is "CoNaNunitNaN DefAMult" displayed.

wisey,

I am not sure what the problem is, it works fine for me. If you are still having trouble I suggest you open a support ticket so we can work with you one on one to resolve the issue.

Barry, hmm, I did "open" a ticket but never got a responding email. I will try again.

The "page... not available" problem is intermittent. However, I am continuing not to see the date on the topics. It shows "CoNaNunitNaN DefAMult"

CoNaNunitNaN DefAMult = 'Community Default' with the 'mm' and 'y' converted to NaN (Not a Number). Looks like the 'a' in Default is being converted to the time of day (AM).

Definitly open a ticket. This is weird.

hi, I am sorry. I finally managed to get a ticket submitted. I am not sure what happened but it took three tries.

It is also creating problems with the display of the subject heading within the post. I have gone through the forum settings to make sure that the date format is appropriate (I am using a default format). The page unavailable problem continues intermittently. Usually, when one clicks on the link again, it comes. A number of people have reported this on the site.

I think that the problem might be coming from the rebuilding of the log access and there may be corruption of the posting dates. I am wondering if I should rebuild the cache.

I think that I may have isolated part of the problem. I had downloaded and installed the new Java 1.4.1 package for OSX about two weeks ago. The data problem occurs with all the browsers that I use, including Netscape 7.1, Explorer 5.2, Mozilla 1.4a, Camino 0.7. It does not occur with Safari 1.0 beta 2 but I have been using Safari only using the old interface.

What I am puzzled by is why this problem occurs only with http://sciwire.com and not, for example, this support forum. I can see the dates properly on this site. I asked some other users if they have a problem and people with Windows computers don't have seem to have a problem. This may be problem with the java version + setup of our particular site.

Hi wisey,

Let's continue our discussion in your trouble ticket. We can post back more information here on the matter once we have a better idea of what exactly is going on.

As an FYI for everyone, here is what I've come up with so far:
quote:
Safari isn't submitting the correct values for your MySpace preferences. The "CoNaNunitNaN DefAMult" is a result of Safari submitting the string "Community Default" as the value for your selected date format where it *should* be sending the empty string "" as specified in the HTML.

The page unavailable errors are happening also because of your preferences. Your "Hide Me" preference has been submitted by Safari as "on" whereas the HTML specifies the value should be submitted as "Y". Because of this, the application is failing when trying to update the online now list for you which is why you get those periodic errors. This problem will only be happening to you (and other Safari users who have chosen to hide themselves from Online Now).

Michael is testing a potential workaround for Safari right now. I'll let you know what he finds out. You have a couple of options. To get rid of the "CoNaNunitNaN DefAMult" problem, you could just specify a specific date format from the dropdown list in your MySpace preferences (other than Community Default) and that problem should go away. As for the other problem, you might try switching your online now preference to "show me" and see if that makes any difference at all.

Note that the cause of the "page unavailable" errors that I have listed here is specific to wisey. When you get the page unavailable error, there are any number of sources for the problem since it is the generic error message the app always gives when it doesn't have any other error message to display. If you are ever getting the "page unavailable" message on your site, I always recommend opening a trouble ticket so that we can investigate the specific problem with your site.
