Groupee! Make me happier!

One of the downsides of trying to get clients to use eve is that the hosting is sooooo expensive and doesn't have as many features like other hosts like what I use currently.

For example, I sell hosting now, and for $3.95 I offer 5gb of space, 250gb of data transfer per month. That's a lot. Downside, No groupee/eve.

I don't know if groupee needs a loan to get more server space, but your software is great and i think the hosting price should come down. I'd gladly shovel more people your way when that happens for my clients that can utilize groupee/eve.

FloodTheClub.com uses it and they love it. Now if only i could make the flash chat be the colors of the site (which was a neat surprise, I didn't even know you did the upgrade to flash chat till I clicked on chat recently)

I too wish it was cheaper Frown

However, I WOULD NOT want it to be cheaper if it meant a decrease in the service given to customers (i.e.- tech support, etc)

Why don't you just add your 3.95 hosting plan onto their bill and set up groupee on the groupee hosting and have the main portion of the site go through your hosting with lots more bandwidth and server space.

But, I have to agree with you. I think that if I was able to allow my members to all post to photo albums, I would be able to not only increase the amount of traffic to my site and offer a little more retainability with them, but I may get more users to sign up which could be nice.

Having groupee is nice and the support is great, but it iskind of like being down to your last dollar. You have to be rally careful what you do with it. In my case, it is moving files that were uploaded to groupee to a non groupee server and also limiting photo albums to nobody so that I don ever risk going over my bandwidth and space. Time consuming, but the price ya pay or the satisfaction of knowing that they take care of all the upgrades, the backups, the security patches, etc..

Yeah, We started with one plan and now we've gone up like 5 plans in order to compensate.

That's a lot of money to be paying.

Mr.Design, I agree I wouldn't want to lose quality either. But we're practically paying the cost of 3 dedicated servers.

My client also wanted to start putting video onto his site. Which as most media-related web designers know, will be HUGE in file size and bandwidth/data transfer to users will be enormous. Only solution would be to put them on an outside server.

The downside is we can't make the videos private for registered users only which is something we want.

And something I didn't mention before which makes me happy about being a groupee client/user is that we get free upgrades AND we do get good customer service here. Which you'd have to pay a fortune for elsewhere.

Now, I'm actually thinking to myself maybe the price isn't so bad... however, I still think it could come down at least half for the higher end and give more space/bandwidth.

That's the point. We're not selling cheap web hosting. That's not our market, not our business. We are selling Groupee Community, and we think it is a terrific value. It happens to come with full service web hosting. It is not web hosting that happens to include Groupee.

Line, that it sounds as though you undervalue Groupee to your customers when you present it, and are selling us as web hosting that comes with Groupee rather than selling them on Groupee Community itself. When you sell the right idea it's a lot easier to sell. Smile

Groupee doesn't skimp on servers. You cannot scale Java Servlets to the ranges that Groupee does without having some beefy servers behind them. TBH, when it comes to hosting, you get what you pay for. If you pay $4/month for 5GB Disk and 250GB transfer, you are probably on a cheap server with 200 other people promised the same thing (I'm not making any implications towards anyone, just speaking from past experiences with cheap hosts).

I was on a bargain host at one point in time. My classic board was throwing little to no load at the server (10-15 concurrent users max), and it was ISE city. After about 4 support tickets, the recommended I switch to a PHP based board. If I was on Groupee's servers, that scenario would have never came up. From my experiences, when you start paying $15-20 for a low end webhosting package, you are getting quality bandwidth on reliable hardware.

What the?! Mr. Design! you rock!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting that script!

That will help big time. That's just what we needed.

David you're right, I still tell people to use groupee. And I do tell them why it's worth it too. I just wish it was cheaper, OR we got more for the money invested at the higher level.

Cheers to all!
One day I will return to groupee. When I had it on my site NewsForNow.com, it worked wonders.
