I bought the Sodo product yesterday for the domain http://www.mancrant.com (which is hosted by 1&1internet).

I presumed the Groupee sodo product was a messageboard for our website.

Now though, when I receive the instructions on how to configure, it tells me to go to http://www.mancrant.com/config which obviously does not exist as that is the address for a page on our server that groupee doesn't have access to.

Have I misunderstood the groupee concept? Is there something I need to download or what do I have to do so that our domain name now points to groupee?

Cheers
Neil

Hi, Neil:

Sorry for the confusion. When you put in an order for mancrant.com, that tells our system that you want us to host mancrant.com. If you'd just like to have your community hosted by us, and have the rest of your site hosted elsewhere, you'll need to choose either a subdomain of your own (e.g. forums.mancrant.com), or one of our subdomains (e.g. mancrant.groupee.net).

I would recommend putting in a support ticket, so we can get this squared away for you.

Hi.

Thanks for your quick response - superb (and one of the reasons we chose Groupee).

We want you to host the whole site, http://www.mancrant.com (there's no site or messageboard there at the moment) but as we purchased the domain with 1&1internet, they currently host it. Do we need to transfer it to you?

Additionally, and this is where I guess I'm confused - do we need to purchase a messageboard as well?

Neil

Hi, Neil:

Sorry...I jumped to the conclusion that you only wanted your community hosted with us, and didn't address everything I should have.

If you do want us to host your site, you need to point your DNS to our servers: ns1.infopop.cc and ns2.infopop.cc. You should have received this information in one of the two emails that you received from us.

You did purchase the community--it's part of the plan you purchased, and (once you've updated the DNS record and it's propagated), will be found at mancrant.com/groupee.

Wow - thanks for all your help on this one - super duper!

I've updated the DNS with 1&1interent, do I need to do anything with you guys now, apart from sit and wait for it all to be transferred?

As the domain is still with them does it also mean that site traffic goes through them as well? I'd hate to be charged twice for bandwidth.

Wow - this is more complicated than i expected.

Cheers

Hi, Neil:

Not as complicated as you are now trying to make it. Wink

The site traffic (and bandwidth) will only go through us. They have the domain name only.

If you've updated the DNS, you don't need to do anything else until it's all been propagated (could be anywhere from 24-72 hours). I'd just check the domain occasionally to see if it works for you (specifically the mancrant.com/config and mancraft.com/groupee URLs).

Welcome! Smile

You're not wrong there Wink

Just to make matters worse, I notice my domain with you is http://mancrant.com whilst it should be http://www.mancrant.com.
Does this make a difference?
