Many of you have been writing to us here at Infopop Support about problems with SMTP mail when running your UBB on NT. In all cases the socket test in the control panel passed but the mail would not send.
We were able to track the common denominator to for many of you to ActiveState Perl, 5.6, build 613. On Friday July 14, 2000 Active State released build 614 with the following note in the change log: "On Windows, creating sockets in pseudo-child processes did not work because Winsock was not initialized in the pseudo-process. This has been rectified. " That would cause your UBB to be unable to send mail. We have asked several people that were having these SMTP problems to update their 613 to 614 build over the last few weeks and had terrific success. We urge anyone having the same difficulties to update their perl build to 614 also. You can download it free from ActiveState, which is located at http://www.ActiveState.com Please remember this is not a fix-all solution. You must first have your UBB pointing to the right mail server (in your control panel) and that mail server must be configured to allow relay from your UBB without authentication first(pop then send scheme). If that is true for your situation, AND you are using ActiveState perl 5.6 build 613, AND your UBB does not send mail please update to the newer build. ------------------ |
