Found this great little animation on a site called De Milo Design that offers letterpress services. It provides a glimpse of basic type terminology. If anything, it defines some of the type terms you might have heard and wondered about such as, "What the heck is a ligature"?

Here is a link to the site itself.

Wow, that's really interesting. Thanks!

BTW, I really love the Tekton font, but I don't find it very often. Don't know why I felt the need to express that, but I did. razz

Hey KQ-

Tekton is a classic! It basically evolved out of the font architects and landscape architects use/used when inking out blueprints onto vellum.

Here is a quote I found on Cooper Interaction Design's site that mentions it in a book. "Architecture: Form, Space & Order" by Francis D. K. Ching.

quote:
Ching's lettering is a classic example of the nameless but universally-taught "architect's" font. David Siegel used Ching's lettering as the model for his famous Tekton font.

I don't know why, but that kind of reminds me of comic sans. I can logically tell myself that it's nothing like comic sans, but that's all I think of when I look at that.

ooooh. Now I can think back to the day when comic sans was a requested web font. ewww. That's not the most readable text.

It also reminds me a bit of those hand-painted sale signs they used to have in grocery stores when I was growing up. Back in the 30s.
