I think so. There are so many random rules which do not apply to all posters on the eve community of (specific forum name deleted by Rosemary) that it is not only confusing, but fearful for those who do not give homage to the monitors.
I think any discussion forum needs a modicum of monitoring and should only view violations of TOS with regard to name calling or giving out personal information as reasons for banning. It becomes quite disturbing to the enjoyment of a discussion forum when a monitor of the forum begins violating TOS information by giving out personal data on posters. This constitutes a heavy breach of trust for all posters and invokes fear in persons who should be just enjoying a forum. Who monitors the monitors? What is the recourse for complaints? Although I edited out the reference to the specific forum, I think this is an interesting topic for general discussion.
How much moderation is done in a particular community is usually geared toward the audience. Some groups come together and mutually agree that their discussion will be totally free-wheeling and sometimes offensive, and all take it that way. Some groups (like this one), are more tightly monitored because they are part of a business. The cool thing about communities is that there are thousands of them out there, so you can always find one that suits your interests and your preferences about discussion rules. |

She probably failed to mention that she had over 50 accounts.
Now, why would any one person need that many accounts. Sweeper Hey Martha Admin |

He forgot to mention as admin in Hey Martha, he has violated TOS on many occasions. He's not an admin so much as a person who violates those very rules he should have been enforcing.
Monitoring a forum is a hard job, there can be no doubt about it. But when you decide to take the position and separate those who are friends of yours from those who are not, ban persons you don't like for the very reasons you keep others you do like, and in general practice trolling by causing and encouraging inflaming and inciting against posters, it becomes a question of who is incharge. Is it the TOS that dictates the administrator, or the administrator who dictates the TOS? Who enforces the rules when the administrator is breaking them? Over monitoring a forum comes from a person who abuses the very TOS rules created. That gets to be a game of "be my friend and you can violate all you want." If the purpose of the Hey Martha forum is to harbor trolls, then they have accomplished it. However, the TOS rules need to then be changed, or the administrator, Sweeper, fired. You can't have it both ways. You can't have a TOS and then allow the Administrator to violate it. The complaints against this administrator are numerous. When will the cries be heard? Although I realize groupee just sets up the operations....is it the decision of the cnhi group to close PMs and randomly close Open forums and Chatrooms? It's just a shame that a once great forum which had minimal monitoring and took care of its own is now perceived to be the playground of an administrator who violates the TOS issues. Changes need to be made in the TOS so that new posters understand they are subject to random acts of attacks and that their personal information will be given away at the random discretion of the administrator either in Chat or in a phone conversation he may request with you and that you have no recourse because he is the administrator. To leave the TOS as someone being a trust between administration and poster which will not be violated cannot bear out under the current and past practices of this particular admin. |
