My neice has a 4 year old boy and yesterday while he was playing in his playroom he decided it would be fun to climb up on the window seat and pull up the blinds...she had tied the cords up but he managed to get to the cord and wrap it around his neck somehow and when he did that the blind went down and took him up...he was barely touching the windowseat with his toes...my neice heard him and ran in to see what was wrong and it took her a few minutes to get him untangled because he had wrapped the cord around several times...she took him to the doctor and he is ok, but it was a very scary thing....She thought she had the cords out of his reach...but apparently not...check your house please and make sure your children are safe...thankfully this incident turned out ok..but things like this happen more than you would think....

Holy Cow! I would think a 4 year old would be too big to get strangled by the cords!

Supermom, isn't that scary? When my nephew was three we were putting in new hedges around our decking in the back yeard. The hedges still had the twine around them from Home Depot.
He was int he bakyard playing while were were yard work. He somehow wrapped the twine around his neck. We found him before any damage was done, thank goodness. He just had twine burn around hi neck. This happened 2 days after he rolled the car down the drive way. ~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~ Kiss my grits. |

Thank you for sharing that, I've heard of that happening before to other people.
I have one to add myself. If you have a toddler you have to constantly watch them. We have a gate for our stairs but chocobaby figured out how to climb through the side of the stairs to go up. So we had to move the gate up higher. Anyway, the other night is when he figured this out. In a split second of time I realized he had done this and I could hear him screaming upstairs. I ran up there and followed the cries and he was sitting IN the toilet!! His feet were stuck in the hole and he could not get out. So everyone please just always watch your kids. I constantly know where he is and didn't think he would figure out how to climb through the sides of the stairs but he did. Never think that something wont happen at your house because things do happen. He is perfectly fine but now we are getting toilet locks!! ````````````````````````````````` The Harder You Work Today. After watching "Wild, Wild West," my niece, 3, tried to hang her little brother, 2. She had him get up on the window ledge, put the blind cord around his neck, and jump.
He did not die. I can't remember what happened. Maybe the blinds fell. They are now grownup with children of their own. But every once in a while someone brings that up. My son, who had just started to walk, pulled out the bottom drawer of a chest of drawers and climbed in. The whole thing came crashing down. Luckily the top drawer came out and propped the whole thing up. So he was underneath in a tent-like area. He wasn't hurt, just surprised, as was I. I had been in the bedroom with him but had taken his twin sister in the living room to put her shoes on. I saw him pull out the drawer. It didn't occur to me that a tiny kid could pull over a chest like that. I didn't think about him climbing in. "Once a king, always a king. But once a knight's enough." My grandnephew, 2, (the son of the hanger in the above post) was able to open the locked door to the garage, open the car and get the garage door opener, and open the garage door.
His mom heard the door going up and discovered him getting ready to make a break for it. "Once a king, always a king. But once a knight's enough." Benny Ray Halstead, SSHS, 1968 |

The first thing I do with new blinds is to make sure the ropes are seperated, I don't trust those plastic things that are suppose to break away. Not only do I do this to protect my grandchildren but to protect my cats. The cats will play with them and could also get hung..

Michael stuffed Morgan in the dryer and turned it on...

He did let him out when Mariah started yelling at him..and I ran from the other side of the house to see why she was yelling...
I said "What are y'all doing in here?" in my best intimadating Mommy voice...he just looked at me and said "laundry". Then Morgan told me what he had REALLY done(drying clothes while they are still on the child doesn't qualify as "laundry" here..) the child quickly went into therapy... |

I think I have mentioned this before but, when I was three, I fell asleep on the couch, my mom woke me up and took me into the bathroom to go "potty" while she went to get my bed ready. Apparently I feel back asleep while sitting there and fell off the toilet and broke my collarbone...at least that is what my mom told me

When I was 5, my mom's best friend's son and I were playing in their home office. Brogan was climbing up a file cabinet, using the drawers as steps and it tipped over on him. He had brain damage from lack of oxygen to his brain.
I had nightmares for months afterwards. |

When my now 8 year old was 2 he did the funniest thing.
He put the hose in the dryer vent that is outside and turned the water on. It filled the dryer with water, but we just tilted it and drained it out and the dryer worked fine! ````````````````````````````````` The Harder You Work Today. The Easier Your Life Will Be Tomorrow. |

You have to watch kids ALL the time. That's the bottom line.
What else can I remember from my kids' childhood. One of them stuck sunflower seeds up her nose. I don't know why. She just came to me and said, "Mommy, I got seeds up my nose." I was scared that she'd suck them back in her lungs, but she didn't. Lots of other funny things but I guess I keep some of those stories for blackmail material. "Once a king, always a king. Oh Stella, that reminded me of the time my ds stuck a green skittle up his nose...his nose started running and the green was running down his face, I called the doctor and he told me not to worry, it would melt....
Also when dd was about 4, we were at the grandparents, I was changing ds diaper and grandpa was supposed to be watching dd. I heard this horrible screaming and went running in to see what happened...she had tripped and put both palms of her hands on a hot kerosene heater....grandpa was less than a foot away at the time....it was awful...I rushed her to the doctor and it took a while to heal... |

My son burned his finger on a hot mist vaporizer.
The other son took a bite out of a glass Christmas ornament. My neighbor's nephew had a HORRIBLE sinus infection that just wasn't clearing up. Finally, about 3 months later, they discovered that he stuffed the filter for his brother's nebulizer up his nose (a little sponge type thing, about the size of a dime). He didn't want to fess up to it because he thought he would get in trouble. ______________________________ |

My oldest daughter when she was about 8 stuck her tongue on the metal bar in the freezer...trying not to laugh hysterically at this childs tongue being frozen to the ice box...while pouring water was very difficult.
