Is there any link? Check out this picture. Way back in the day of Commodore 64, there was another Ultimate Bulletin Board called C-Net 64 by Perspective Software. Their authors names were Jim Selleck and Ken Pletzer... Any relation? That was the best then, this is the best now...

whoah, blast from the past! There's no relation...I think they used ultimate with a small "u". It's always great to visit the ancestors...

I still remember using the old "wildcat" BBSs...eek!

In 85 we ran a BBS that ran A.M.I.S which was king of the Atari BBS software, then we were one of the first to runs Nitelite. Nitelite was special in that it had a nifty new feature: Hot Keys!! That's right, if you knew the menu selection you wanted, you could type the letter while the screen was still downloading (over 300 baud) and it would stop and go to the appropriate function!!!

Pretty spiffy. A.M.I.S. required you to wait each time.

Sadly, I got out of the BBS biz a few years before Wildcat! cam out.

Wow... I just did a google search for A.M.I.S. and came up with a list of boards for the Atari. (http://www.landfield.com/faqs/atari-8-bit/faq/section-29.html)

It lists Amis and nitelite! Funny too because as soon as I saw nitelite's creators name (Paul Swanson) I instantly remembered that he was from Billerica, MA and I used to talk to him a bunch when getting the software set up. Looooong time ago

Well, shouldn't somebody seriously consider making software that can turn a website into a "web system". Imagine how nice it would be to log into a website and, like C-Net, automatically be told if you've got mail, show who else is on, show you news, have online multiplayer games, files. Remember Empire? How about LORD? These are all things that the year 2000 should have without a thought.

I used to be a very active BBS user and I owned a C-Net 11.5a before I left computers for 9 years. Nowadays, UBB and the like is the next best thing... But NOT the best thing! Can you imagine how you would rule the world if you came up with something like this that worked? I've never seen anything like this and BBSs are greatly missed...

I don't have the programming knowledge to get something like this going but I'm sure it can be done. I have all the ideas and so do you veterans out there... Any thoughts?

Hey Sal Collaziano,

Is your banner (signature) large enough? They need to start charging you CPM for displaying it here!

And furthermore... How on Earth does something (the regular internet) in the year 2000 happen to be less feature rich and interactive than something (the average BBS) in 1985? Doesn't that seem a bit backwards in the first place? The internet should have been everything that a C-Net 64 BBS was PLUS more... What happened?
