Shouldnt there be an easier way to move and notify the poster, when they post a topic in the wrong forum?

Currently I have to:
- Copy topic to other Forum
- Add a reply saying "Moved to Widgets Forum..."
- Close the topic
- optionally email the user to let them know or advise them on posting rules. (or PM them, but then who ever knows they have a Private Message since there is no notification
- remember to delete the closed topic a week or so later (we leave it in list so poster will not wonder what happened to their post)

Shouldnt this be more automated, so the poster is notified, or remaining post has a time-to-die, "move and leave a copy' is a function in the list, etc

Also, can't 'Close topic' be added to the Admins Reply window, again reducing so many trips to the Topic Management Control Panel?

This is a wonderful suggestion and would surely make things easier for administration. It seems like I spend an awful lot of time e mailing members because they have posted in the wrong forums. I'd love to see this feature added if at all possible.
I set up a hidden "trash" forum on our site, where I can store either inappropriate posts, or ones that are being reviewed until content is approved. This also involves copying, moving and e mailing members.
Sure would save some time and extra work.

We do have plans for ways of improving this feature. For the same reasons you have listed. When a message is moved there is no way to know that it was ever there, so the author has no real way of knowing what happened.

What would be great for me is if you could copy a topic into a different forum, but it would remain active on both its original and new location; people could reply to messages in either place and they would appear in both forums. There are specific times on our site when such functionality would be very valuable.

when you move the thread it makes a link in the old forum that's a direct link to the thread in the new section?

I loved this feature when I ran a forums using vbulletin 2.x
move the thread, no need to notify anyone since they find their thread, see that it was in the wrong section, then end up in the right section so they know where it should be.
