Does anyone maintain a list of words that I can dump into my filter box? In recent days we've had a few people post on our site that are clearly trying to wreak havoc. Curse words and nude body parts are some items that have popped up recently.

I know how to add and set up this feature. I would like a list of "Bad words" to use in my filtering area.

I know, posting them here would be a no-no and I'm sure that if you send them to me it'll set off my spam filter. I have no problems looking in my spam folder for this stuff.

Yes, this is a request to get bombarded with filth and smutt. I know it sounds strange but I really need this. Eek

Does groupee/eve have such a list? Is there a site that maintains such filth that isn't a filthy site to begin with?

I have not been able to accept new members for a few days now for fear of idiots and trouble makers.

Could someone please help? Frown

Now you've heard everything! Before this I'm sure that you thought you've heard it all... Big Grin

I can't believe I'm going to say this... Thanks for sending me that smut, I am going to put it to good use!

I've noticed in the control panel it says to seperate all word with a comma. The list you sent me has no commas. Will it still work or do I need to edit this list further? If I wanted to block everything with a rubyurl.com address do I just add Rubyurl.com to this list too?

oh good catch! i just tested it, and it looks like it works without the commas. if you want to be extra sure, you can use notepad's "Replace" feature (under the Edit menu). in "find what", just hit space bar once, and in "replace with" add a comma.

oh, and yes - if you want to block anything about rubyurl.com you could add that, or simply "rubyurl" if you wanted to prevent people from trying to work around the censor. Smile

I'd leave the .com off entirely. The period might cause some confusion in the censor list.

I can't seem to get this to work.

What is the difference between the two?

1) Forums>master settings>advanced tab>Content Moderation Triggers>Trigger Word List
>require approval before content goes live.

2) Eve>master settings>Advanced tab>censoring>enable censoring>Global Eve Censor List

I tried using both, just one, then the other and still can get these words to pop up. What the heck am I doing wrong now?

Maybe I'm not doing anything wrong...

If the sites admin uses these words will it still post? I asked another member to use a few select words and it did filter his post.

1) If the censor list is set up correctly, it should censor your content as well. (At least, my community censors mine.)

Take a look at this censorship overview, and see if there's anything you may have missed. Often, people forget to turn the censor on in their forums. (Step 3)

1) Go to your eve control panel, and access Eve > Master Settings > Advanced, and check the "Enable Censoring" option.

2) Enter all the words (separated by commas) that you want to be replaced with ***. This will automatically censor those words.

The Censor list does not support phrases, only single words. Entering spaces or carriage returns in a comma delimited censor list will most likely cause problems within the list.

In addition, if the word or letter sequence that you are trying to censor falls in the middle of another word, that word or letter sequence will still be censored. For example, if you list the word "***" in the censor, the word "grass" will show up as "gr***" instead. If you don't want this to happen, enclose the word within {braces} in the censor list. For example, {loo} will censor loo but not blood.

3) Most people want to have censoring apply to posts within their eve community. In order for this to occur, you'll need to enable it in your forums.

In the control panel, go to Forums > Master Settings > Advanced, and check the option to Enable Censoring. As long as you want to use the same list for every forum, just check the option to Use Global Censor List. This will use the censor list you have already created in step two.

Also, you mentioned wanting to know the difference between trigger words and censoring.

Whereas censoring replaces objectionable words with "*****," trigger words allow you to specify certain words that, when used in a post, cause the post to require approval from an administrator.

Set up trigger words, go to your control panel and navigate to Forums > Master Settings > Advanced tab. The Content Moderation Triggers setting is at the very bottom. When posts have been sent to the moderation queue for approval, you'll find them under Forums > Content Management > Approval Queue.

Thank you all for your help. Last question, I thought I did this but I seem to be having a problem.

I checked off to be notified about any posts needing moderation. I have not received any emails and I had 2 waiting for approval.

Where do I find this email forwarding link? It must still be linked to the other moderator. Where does a failed message go to if it didn't go to me or the old moderator?

Hey, Bill.

You should be able to do this in the eve control panel:

Eve Control Panel > Forums > Content Management > Approval Queue > Notifications

As long as this is set to "On," a notification should be sent to the email address associated with your account.

This is and individualized setting.

If another moderator logs in to the control panel, they can toggle their notification on and off without affecting the setting you've chosen for yourself.

If turned on, and you haven't received a notification message, you may want to check your spam and junk mail folders, to make sure the notifications weren't filtered there.

Is there a way to check this? I can not see an area to look at that will tell me what email address is associated with this account,

I have already checked my spam folders, no dice.

For these notifications, there's no special place to designate a recipient. The notifications are tied to your account's email address.

The process is like this.

1) You sign into your account.
2) You go to the place I mentioned earlier and check to see if the notifications are turned on or off. If they're off, turn them on.
3) Once they're on, notifications are going to be sent to the email address associated with your account.

The toggle only controls the notifications for your own account. If you wanted one of your moderators to get notifications, they would have to complete the above process for themselves.

If you're unsure of the email address associated with your account, you can check the email address associated with your account by going into the "Personal Zone," and checking out your profile.

If the notifications are turned on, and you still aren't getting notifications to the email address associated with your account, there may be another issue.

Are the posts in question yours, or from someone else in your community?

Hi! I'm also trying to filter out objectionable content. Do you still have this list handy? Is there any way I could get a copy as well?

Thanks!

Hi, Jay:

I see no indication in your profile (or your signature) that you are a customer. If you'll update your profile to tell us your Eve community affiliation, I'd be happy to send you the list. Smile

Hello

I'm also after this famed smut list.
I configure Eve communities for Atlantic Records UK as part of the Warner Music account.

Could you email it to me please?
Alternatively if you email it Ed Hanna or another account contact with instruction to forward it to Carl Screwvala at Atlantic UK that would also work.

Much appreciated
Carl Screwvala
