Hi,

If I add a word to the
Eve
- Master Settings
- - Advanced
- - - Censoring
- - - - Censor List

Does this affect posts that are currently live?
That is, does it retroactively replace all occurrences of the offending word with ****s?

Thanks

PS

I scanned back through 3 pages of search results and didn't see the answer to this.

No, the censor list will only affect new posts.

And you may want to be aware of a bug in the filter that allows members to bypass the censor list altogether by inputting code behind the word so it displays. You can end up with some nasty [edited by Admin] and not be able to do much about it. I reported this awhile back. Can't wait for this bug to be fixed. It wreaks havoc in our forums.

Thank you Steven.

If we add the same list of words at the Forum level so that posts that contain them are sent for moderation - does that still work if the words have been replaced by ****s?

Thank you BigKyle,

We'll keep an eye out for that. I got the impression that you could add strings of characters without the {curly braces} and that would catch the patterns even if they were embedded inside other things. That might get ugly with things like "we scrapped the car.

You can input whole words but the bug applies to code behind the word. I tested it in my post above with the word **** and as you can see up there it shows up with no problem.

Hi, Kyle:

I see what you're talking about. I'll discuss this with Jonmark (Eve developer) on Monday when he's back in the office.

ST:

I'm not quite sure I follow. You don't need to duplicate the list at the Forum level. You can just use the master Eve list. That is, unless you want a different list.

Hi Steven

Thank you for your reply!

I am talking about this setting at the Forum Level:

Eve Control Panel » Forums Master Settings
- Advanced
-- Content Moderation Triggers

Let's say that I had added {somenastyword} to the list in

Eve Control Panel » Master Settings
- Advanced
-- Censoring

Now, when someone posts a message that contains somenastyword I think it would be replaced with *************

If I had also put {somenastyword} in here

Eve Control Panel » Forums Master Settings
- Advanced
-- Content Moderation Triggers

would this still happen
quote:
Any posts that contain these words will automatically be placed in the Content Management Approval Queue and will not be viewable by the public until the posts are officially approved.
Trigger Word List
(Leave blank if you do not want to have any content moderated based on specific words that are posted.)

Placing the word(s) in the Content Moderation Triggers will not censor it with asterisks, but will instead divert the message to the content moderation queue for manual approval. The message won't show up on the forums until approved. EDIT: This is a setting and you can actually configure it to go live and then just be placed in the moderation queue for later review.

The same rules apply here. Words in braces {} will be matched against the entire word so only {hap} will flag posts with "hap" but not with "happy."

Did that answer your question?

Hi Steven,

Not quite.

What happens if you put a {word} in both places (Global Censor list AND Content Moderation Triggers)

Steven,

Is there a way to have posts automatically delete rather than go to the moderation forum? We get a ton of spam, so much that we require every single post to go to moderation no matter what.

Hi, Kim:

There is no way to send messages directly to deletion. I took a look at your forums and noticed that you allow guests to post. You can greatly curb your spam problem by requiring people to sign up in order to post.

Thanks, Steven. We did that originally, but it reduced the number of posts substantially. We require users to register to originate a thread but not to respond to one.
