Infopop will be introducing full language packs for Eve *and* Groupee soon. You will be able to specify the language your members use in the Groupee Network. Shortly after we'll introduce full eve translations available in your control panel.

We now need co-ordinators willing to maintain the language packs. In return we will credit a generous amount of your monthly webhosting fees.

We are beginning with

German
French
Spanish
Chinese

Interested?

Here are the requirements

1) You have an eve site and preferably are already in the Groupee network
2) You know the language perfectly and can make accurate translations of the eve controls
3) You can keep your wordlet set updated in a timely fashion.

Please email michael@infopop.com and put "Language Co-ordinator" in the subject line. If you are an expert in other languages, please be in touch.

How much time per week do you think would be needed for this (Also, how long, in terms of weeks would it be)? I speak Spanish, however, I wouldn't want to do it if I didn't have enough time that I could give to it Smile

I sent you an e-mail Michael, but as I was just reading it back over, I'm getting the idea that we would have to switch our site over to the language we would be working on... is that correct? Confused

It's true that you'd want your site to be using the the wordlet set. What better testing than real users?!

We've just accepted an offer for a Spanish Language co-ordinator who runs an all Spanish eve community. But I very much appreciate your offer.

I think the initial work is tough. There are 1700+ wordlets and I expect it would take a couple of days to do. Of course if you are fluent, it's no big deal and Eve does give and easy interface for updates.

After that initial push, maintenance is a few new wordlets a month, I'd guess.

We've started out contacting sites with existing language sets. We're still recruiting for French, German and Chinese.

I'm not willing to convert our entire site (99% of our site probably is in English), but I do have two German-speaking active members of our community who volunteered to translate the wordlets if you ever want to go that route.

You shouldn't need to have the entire board using the non-English wordlet(s). You can just create a new wordlet set, and maybe assign it to a single forum to be used for testing.

As Michael said, though, having everyone on the translated wordlet means it'll get a more thorough test. Smile

With these language templates will we be able to assign them to just one forum within the community?

If so, would including an option on the login/register page to switch to registering using a forgien language template be possible? The wordlet would only apply during for registration and the confirmation email.

Not currently Malazan, though localization at that level has been discussed so I wouldnt be surprised if it found its way into our development schedule at some point.

MIchael,

I know you guys are not looking for Brazilian Portugueses right now, but when you do, please let me know.
My board is Brazilian Portuguese only and I´m willing to help if you need.

Thanks Toni

We'll keep that in mind. I'd expect a major language like Portuguese will be very high on the list of next languages to include.

Note that we could not find a proper French coordinator, so we currently have these languages accounted for: Chinese, Spanish, German, Portuguese.

We are still looking for additional languages to support, so please contact us as directed by Michael above.

Hi elmkadem-

The localization options are not currently available. They will be available as part of our 2.0 release.

Hi Michael,

As things are turning out this season, we're definitely not going to be able to do this ourselves, but we have thousands of Japanese members who are all (by default) Groupee users. We would be happy to give you ad space, in Japanese, for free. You'll surely get some volunteers.

Let me know!

My partner and I work at a translation/localization firm ten hours a day, six days a week. We just won't be able to stomach doing it more during our "off" hours, if you know what I mean. Better to do some cycling, yoga, etc., in those precious hours.

Also, I find wordlets tiresome to work on. We had localized almost our whole Infopop community a couple of years ago, and then there was an upgrade right afterward which caused most of the work to have been a wasted effort. Recently, Groupee engineers moved all our data (to solve an unrelated issue) and turned the remaining Japanese into meaningless gibberish. So, we decided we'd just leave it in English.

However, if Groupee had Japanese capabilities that would be GREAT.

Again, sorry.

I'm very sorry to hear about losing all those Japanese wordlets. That would have been a great resource to build on since the majority are not changed from version to version.

We'd love to work with a Japanese project in exchange for a discounted or even completely free Groupee community. If you have recommendations, we'd appreciate them.

I agree with you that having Japanese as a built-in localization option for Groupee would be be great.

Hi, Instabile.

First of all, I feel the need to mention that it appears non-English support is being brought into reality in Groupee's latest product.

In the March 8th chat, it was announced that initial support in Groupee 2.0 will be for Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese. You can see the entire transcript here:

http://community.groupee.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/86810289763/m/79710689763

While Italian isn't currently listed as one of the initial supported languages in Groupee 2.0, but it's good to know that there is an interest in it.

Hi, Terry,

The information I've seen on this issue indicates that the new Groupee product will have Spanish available. At the moment, there's no news of a Spanish wordlet set for eve.
