I need to turn off the main notification for all my members so they won't be notified of new postings on my forums. How do I do this?

Thanks.

To remove the option for notifications:
Eve Control Panel>>Members>>Permission Snapshot
Choose Forums - Forums - Person Permissions
The following permissions need to be disabled:
Instant Email Notifications Permitted
Can subscribe to member posts
Daily Digests Permitted
Weekly Digests Permitted

To disable display of the notification option here:
Eve Control Panel>>Master Settings
Choose Advanced Tab
In the Notifications section, put a check mark in the "Disable Display of Notification Options" box.

Yes, this will turn off notifications for members who are currently getting notifications, as long sa you uncheck the box under "Members", and then hit the "Update Default Group Permissions" Button at the bottom of the page.

Hello Lori,

Is it possible to suppress Notifications for a specific forum?

Hi, ST:

No, Notifications is a "forums-wide" permission, meaning that it's an all-or-nothing deal.

Thanks Lori,

Another related question I guess.

Is it possible to exclude a forum from showing up when you use "Find" in both of these?
- New since your last visit
- Active Topics

What's going on here:
We have an application that lets our users create stage layouts. The last step is manual, and I take the layout and create an image file. I then post the image file in a forum we created specifically for those images.

On a busy day there may be dozens of images in that forum. None of our regular visitors are interested in seeing all of the contents of that forum, but any of them may want to see two or three of the images.

So we have to make the forum visible to guests and registered members, but it would be nice if people didn't have to wade through all the notifications or listing of these image posts when looking at "New Since your Last Visit" or "Active Topics".

Can you see a way to make this happen?

Hi, ST:

The way to avoid having notifications and search results for a forum is to restrict access to that forum. So, if you set up a Power Group who's only power is access to that forum, only users in that power group will get search results and notifications. So, you could invite your membership to let you know if they want to be in the group that has access to that forum. First you'd have to remove the "View Content" permission from guests and members (for that particular group), and then give that permission to your special group.

The downside is that, again, it's an all-or-nothing proposition.

The other way to handle this is for your members not to subscribe to ALL forums, but to individually select the forums to which they want to subscribe, which they do via the forums, and not via their profile. A tedious process if that's the only forum someone doesn't want. And, it wouldn't remove those forum posts from search results.

The ability to de-select a single forum (or more) from the "All Forums" notification process could be done via customization, as could removing one forum from search results. However, customization is only available with our Enterprise plans.
